Isa reclined on the frame of her bed and took out her iPod. She was always in the mood for music, because it expressed her feelings through the stumming of guitars and rhythmitic singing that accompanied the percussion in the background. As the music began blasting in her ears, she stared at her wall, thinking. An acoustic guitar was laid against the wall, next to a black electric one. She hadn't played them in so long. She looked at the ceiling as she ran across the lyrics of the song.
She thought about yesterday, the way Luke had come looking after her. Normally, she didn't get along with guys, let alone girls. Too much drama and girliness for her taste. Guys were simpler, you could easily have a conversation with them, if you had the social skills required. They loved the attractive, skinny and nonshy girls, the ones that were the opposite to her. She could socialize with, well, herself. Her weekends consisted of videogaming, writing, drawing and listening to music. All alone. All the time.
She felt alone. That drove her insane sometimes.
She shook her head, she did not need to feel more depressed. Isa pulled out her laptop from under her bed, placing her hands on the keyboard. The harsh light greeted her as another song started playing in her ears. She logged on Tumblr and started going through photos and gifs. Her dashboard consisted of sad gifs combined with beautiful photos of eyes and landscapes, everything completely in black and white. Grey also swirled around some corners of it as well.
She started typing on a blank page, the words flowing to her mind like a river. In her mind, she could see a story disenvolving, the plot and the characters coming to her like birds behind crumbs of bread. It was the way she took all her problems and planted them on a piece of paper that kept her practically sane. Her fingers moved all around the laptop, and before she knew it, she ended up with two full pages of improvised stories.
She saved and closed, moving to her iPod as she shut the laptop close. Isa decided she was hungry, so she stood up and moved out of the room towards the kitchen. She stared out at her apartment. It looked not exactly cheap, and the things she possessed were also luxuries. She was aware of that. She was aware that her father was the founder of some big rich company in the West.
She was aware that he bought her stuff trying to make up for leaving her mother in the gutter. She could never forgive him, though. That's why she conserved her old and rusty cellphone, because her mother had spent months working to get the money so that she could also buy her a present. Her mother felt guilty that her father presented her with gifts all the time, but she couldn't afford it. It was one of the few things Isa truly treasured.
Isa was an only child, or that was what her parents had told her. She always knew there was something more, that they hid behind their smiles. But she hadn't dared ask, not since the separation took place, it had been too heavy on her and her mom. She reclined on the marble table that was in front of the kitchen. Her ears still blasted with music that filled up her head. She wasn't one to go for bubblegum pop, she preferred alternative and rock. Sometimes even metal or rap. Something different. She turned her eyes around.
That's when she saw it.
A sole white envelope was on the floor, slid from underneath her door. She pulled the earbuds out of her ears, the music spilling out on the environment. As she came close to the piece of paper, she could make out no words on it. She picked it up, still hearing the music from the distance. Had she had the volume so loud all this time? She bent over and picked it up, slowly, as if it had been poisoned or something.
Isa knew someone was after her, but she couldn't have been less prepared for what came next. She ripped the white paper open, the contents spilling on her hands. One photo. She looked at the back of it, with only two words on it.
It's almost time.
As she turned around the photo, her eyes widened. Her lips trembled. Her whole body shook. Her eyes started to fill with tears. Now more than ever, the voices in her head were screaming. She could not unsee it.
Her mother lay on the floor, a bullet hole bleeding on her forehead.

Jai led Riddhi by the hand around the mall. He was smiling at her asking her where she wanted to go. She wore the blue/grey dress Rebecca had picked earlier. Riddhi didn't usually wear dresses, but these last days had been different. She usually wore skinny jeans combined with some pretty T-shirt or blouse. Jai thought she looked beautiful in anything she wore.
"Um, how much till the movie starts?" She asked him, smiling with gleaming white teeth. She had lost much of her new girl shyness over the days, and Jai was somehow glad about it. It meant spending more time talking to her.
"Uh, a half hour, I think." They walked around, their hands tied together, and neither one of them wanted to let go. Riddhi watched him comb his hair with his fingers and wondered how would it feel to run her own fingers through it.
"So, now what?" He asked her, smiling playfully as she pushed a lock of hair out of her face. Riddhi shrugged, but something came up to her mind.
"Ice cream!" She exclaimed happily as they came close to an open ice cream shop. It was filled with the many colors of different flavors of ice cream, ranging from mint to chocolate.
"All right." He smiled at her once again as they came close to the counter. A young college girl with a bad case of acne attended them, a cheerful smile on her face.
She showed her teeth which were covered in gigantic braces. Yet, despite her acne and braces, she was really beautiful. "What would you like to order?"
"Um, I'll have an um, a chocolate cone." Jai decided.
Riddhi gave one more look at the flavors and went simple. "One vanilla cone."
"Okay, I'll have them in just a bit." The girl started to scoop two balls of each flavor in two separate cones. Her movements were slowed and controlled, as if she was unsure of every movement she made. She held out the twin cones out to them, and Jai was forced to let go of Riddhi's hand to get them.
"Thanks."
They paid and left, each licking their own special flavor. The chocolate flooded Jai's mouth, nothing had ever tasted so good, maybe it was because he had never felt better. He was walking hand in hand with a beautiful nice girl, his hair was doing fine and he was eating ice cream. Was there anything better in life? Riddhi was licking her cone happily, the vanilla going well with her personality. Sweet and lovely.
She looked beautiful in that dress, but she could look beautiful in anything, Jai concluded. He kept on eating his cone as she smiled at him. She smelled so good, her perfume and essenceinviting and warm. His heart was thumping against his chest as he smiled back and turned back to his half eaten cone.
"Oh." She said as she stained the tip of her nose softly with ice cream. He looked at her and laughed softly at her, that later turned to a smile.
"Let me get that." Jai said, just before she wiped her nose with her wrist.
He placed his own nose on hers, giving her a nose bear kiss. She was blushing softly, and he thought she looked cute as she did so. They both ended up with stained noses, but they were touching, just the tip of the nose. They both stared at each other's eyes for a moment, just taking in the other's heartbeat. He was slightly taller than her, so he had to hunch to look her directly in the eyes. Their faces separated and Jai found himself red with the blush.
They walked towards the movie theater, none of them saying a word, just enjoying each other's company.
Jai smiled as he scooped up her hand. He had just picked this movie to have an excuse to fall asleep on her shoulder.
