"Okay, Beau, are you sure you can drive us?" Kate asked through the phone. She ran her fingers through her hair and exhaled slowly.
He smirked on the other side of the line. "Do you doubt of my skillz?" He said this as if he had a retainer in his mouth, for no apparent reason. That was Beau. Random as they come.
Kate grinned. "I could never..." She said in an indignant and mocking tone, as if he had just insulted her in the worst way ever. She exhaled again as she got more comfortable on her couch, and curled up in a warm ball. "Seriously though, it's a long way, and we're gonna spend an entire weekend..."
"Wherever there is beach, party and fun, there is Beau Brooks." Talking in third person seemed to suit him, he was adorable while doing it, in Kate's opinion. He brushed his hair with his fingers and grinned. "Yeah, I can drive you guys, only I'm gonna go real slow, because if they pull me over one more time..." He didn't finish the sentence, but she got the memo.
"Alright, but go fast enough so we can arrive Friday afternoon, how about that?" She suggested, rubbing her hand against the hem of her puffy pajama pants.
Beau nodded, without a point because they were talking on the phone. "Yeah, sure." He was about to finish off the topic, but he added, "should I bring some drinks or...?"
Kate smiled. "Of course! This weekend is all about fun." She could picture Beau thinking the dirtiest thing possible with Becca. "Not that type of fun."
Beau snapped out of his daydream. Damn he did had a dirty mind when the opportunity presented itself. "What?" He tried to dissimulate his thoughts with a convincing tone.
Not to Kate, though. "Nothing." She rolled her eyes and continued the conversation. "How are things with Becca?"
Beau flushed at the mention of that name, and rustled his hair. It was a rare occasion where he did not wear a snapback. "I'll tell if you tell about Skip." He could be a real negotiator sometimes, and yet he was one of the best friends Kate could ever ask for.
"Alright."
"You go first." He insisted, as he smiled a bit. He tried to convince her to talk so the conversation would be based on Kate's feelings not his.
Kate did not want to be fooled. "I asked you first." She was not dumb. She smiled as she heard Beau sigh on the other side of the line.
He looked downwards at the floor and tilted his head slightly to the side. "Alright. She's beautiful, funny, adorable, fun and just incredible." The words left his lips without him realizing it, and he felt heat rising to his cheeks as he pictured Becca smiling at him. He shook his head. He was Beau Brooks, he did not blush.
And yet there he was, red as a tomato because of a smile.
"Have you asked her out yet?" Kate ventured a little as a grin appeared on her face, she suspected correctly.
Beau was in love with Becca. Although he didn't want to admit it. And yet it couldn't have been more obvious.
"No." He said simply, thinking to himself what an idiot he was. "But I'm planning to ask her at the beach or something, girls are into all that romantic stuff, no?"
Kate laughed a bit. None of them were a stereotypical girl. On the contrary, they were a bit more... unusual.
"I would recommend, being a bit more direct and just saying it when you're alone." She said to Beau, whom just thought.
He would probably end up putting a gigantic production anyways. "So... How's things with Skip?" He said, not sure if he wanted to change the subject or he was just plain curious. Maybe a bit of both, actually.
