Luke needed to man the fuck up.
He walked back and forth in the street, his backpack still clinging on his back. What was wrong with the world today? Isa had gotten her mom killed in cold blood. She said they hadn't found traces of who did it, but he knew she knew something that she wasn't telling him. Her eyes had seemed so, well, dead. She had not come to school all week, and didn't answer her phone. He missed her more than he wished he did. But why? She was such an introvert. And yet he did.
She had seemed so, scared. Of course she was, her mom had just been murdered. But she had something in her eyes that made even Luke fearful of being alone. Even now he had the feeling that someone watched him there, seeing his every move. He shook the feeling off, and continued walking around the cold afternoon street.
What should he do? Should he pay her another pointless visit?
Since Monday, he had been visiting her every day, just to come to a locked door, and sobbing inside. He wanted desperately to comfort her, but he was certain that he did not know everything. But he wanted to. Oh how he did.
Luke's phone vibrated.
He grabbed it and pasted it on his cheek while muttering a forceful "Yeah?"
James's phone voice came out of the other line. It was cheerful and happy, more than usual.
"Hey Lukey." He always called him that when he wanted to ask a special favor. Kind of puppy eyes for normal people.
"What is it?" He answered with a serious tone, but he had the hint of a smile on his face. It showed in his voice, too. James laughed on the other side of the line.
"You know what day it's today is it." James nudged Luke, then chuckled nervously. It wasn't part of his personality to be so nervous and anxious.
"Yeah, it's Fri- OH." Luke remembered at the last moment with the smile extending all over his face, and the realization in his voice showing like the sun a morning. "It's today... I forgot." He came clean and chuckled nervously, because he knew James hadn't stopped thinking of it all week.
And, as expected, James gasped from the other side of the line. "You just... forgot? Man, I'm counting on you for the most important thing in my life." And Luke had also forgot James treated this as if it were the day his destiny changed.
"Oh come on, I'm still gonna help you." Luke smiled in his tone, the friendliness also coming in the sound of his voice. He could also feel James smiling on the other side of the line. "That's what friends are for, no?" James chuckled softly.
"Yeah... Thanks man, it means the world."
Somehow, Luke already knew that.
"No prob. See ya tonight?" He replied with a smile.
"Sure. Bye." James chuckled nervously as he hung up. Luke could barely imagine how nervous he must be feeling, knowing what was about to go down this night.
Luke went back to his own mind, that was made a mess. What should he do? He could feel eyes watching him, and his heart started racing again.
He decided to visit Isa again.
Even though he knew it would be of no use.

"SKIP, MOVE YOUR ASS!" James grabbed his arm and hauled him out of the school and into the streets. Daniel was being practically dragged by James, a very amused and laughing Kate walking next to both of them.
