"Pizza or Burger?"
The cafeteria smelled of old rancid cheese and crumbled crackers. James slided his tray down the metal bar, smiling to Karigan that played with her tray, her fingers placed on the gray plastic surface. The lunch lady looked at them from behind the counter with round piercing eyes. Her abundant curly hair was in a net, that seemed to have the unluckiest job ever. The lunch lady was morbidly obese, barely squeezing into her small blue buttoned dress with a white collar. As James's turn came next, she turned to face him, her antique like glasses almost falling into his food.
"Pizza or Burger?" She asked him, in a bored and a tone that she wanted to be anywhere but there.
"Pizza." He said with his charming smile. The lady sighed and dumped a greasy piece of pepperoni pizza on his tray. He moved to the side to let room for Karigan.
"Pizza or Burger?"
"Same as him." She smiled widely at the lunch lady, who looked at her, bored. She dumped the same kind of sloppy greasy pizza on her tray and turned her aged face to the next costumer. James leaded Karigan away from the line and towards an alone table at the corner of the cafeteria. It stood next to the window, letting sunshine inside. The cafeteria was full of the buzz of people talking absentmindedly at whatever passed around them, so James and Karigan had freedom to sit in whatever table they chose.
Karigan sat and smiled at James, her eyes gleaming. "Is this edible?" She asked, referring to the pizza that was laid in her tray. She wasn't so sure.
"Yeah, it's alright." He winked at her and began to eat his suspicious piece of pizza. His lips were stained in tomato sauce. He devoured it, hungry for the beautiful elixir that was food.
"Aren't you tired of pizza?" Karigan asked, watching James steadily. He stopped, his pizza in mid air, his mouth half open. As if someone had hit the pause button on that exact moment, leaving him with that particular expression on his face.
"I shall never get tired of pizza." He stated as he drove his frozen piece of pizza into his mouth. He smiled with cheeks full of tomato sauce, bread, cheese and pepperonis. He looked like a hamster with cheeks full. Karigan smiled at him again, her eyes sparkling with the soft tones of laughter as James shoved another bite into his mouth.
James desperately wanted to add, Or you... But, for some reason, he didn't.
"I'm surprised that we hadn't seen each other, and we're both in 10th grade." Karigan said whilst placing her head between her hands, that were sustained by the elbow on the table. Her bluish eyes looked up at James, because he was taller than her.
"I don't know, babe." He swallowed a piece of pizza, and wiped himself with his sleeve. "But I'm really glad I did." He smiled awkwardly at her as she blushed lightly with her smile. James could see her eyes reflecting the happiness in her smile.
"You're gonna eat that?" He finished his own pizza and motioned towards the piece that laid on her own grey plastic tray.
Karigan shook her head. "I wouldn't touch that with my own hands." She shook her head, disgusted at the slice of pizza. James looked at her as if he had suddenly got an idea.
"If you won't touch it, I will." James smiled playfully, and placed the slice of pizza in his own soft hands, and slowly moved the pizza close to Karigan's face. She looked at him as if he had gone crazy.
"Get that thing away from he!" She giggled as he tried again to force pizza in her mouth, she moved to the right, and then to the left, her whole body shaking the table. "Stop it, stop it." She tried to shield her face with her hands, and stop him from giving her that suspicious piece of food.
