Lia held her shawl tightly around herself. Even though the shawl was large, covering her shoulders generously, she felt exposed to the man sitting in the chair behind her. The dress made her feel trapped. The cloth that draped to her feet was long and flowing. If she were to run she would trip over the cloth that pooled around her clumsy legs. A band was wrapped tightly around her body just below her breast. The cloth was tight and restricted her breathing. What she wasnt aware of is that it was common practice for vampires to put collars on whats theirs. Lia was given a dark blue collar, a sign to other vampires that she wasnt available.
Jett laughed with the voice on the other line. They spoke in a language foreign to her. Lia suspected that she was part of the conversation whenever Jett would graced his eyes over her. He sat up from his chair and walked around to Lias side. She tried to stay relaxed when Jett put his arm around her waist.
Ever since he found out about her baby, he has been very touchy. He softened and was more sensitive to her emotions. Lia appreciated his change from the cocky and rude demeanor. However, Jett seems to have taken his promise more seriously than she originally thought. He began to treat her more as an unwilling wife than whatever she was titled before. He now only cooked whatever she wanted.
Lia found it hard to belive that she was safe with this man, despite his want for her and her baby. Lia resited the shiver that crawled up her spine when she remembered Jett offering to to share his bed with her. Jett never got angry when she turned down his efforts but she assumed that was because of the baby. Jett openly admitted that he had intentions of raping her, and she was going to keep that thought plastered in the front of her mind whenever he was around, which lately was always.
Jett hung up the phone. He looked out the window with Lia, tightening his grip on her waist. The rain outside was refreshing to see as it melted the snow that caked the ground. Lia took advantage of her short height to avoid his gaze that shifted to her. Jett used his own advantage, taking her chin in his hand and tilting it up to him.
"Are you cold?" He moved his hand to her cheek, brushing his thumb across her bare shin. His other hand moved up to the shawl, pinched the material between his fingers. "It's Just over seventy-five in here."
Lia tried to slowly pull away from him. Jett raised a brow at her attempts, grabbing her shawl and using it to pull her back.
"What are you thinking about?"
Lia hated when he asked that. His ability to weed out her lies was unfair and another reason to get away from him. She kept her gaze to him, taking in a deep breath.
"Vex." She spoke honestly. Jett didnt reacted to his name, but she knew it boiled his blood. The hole in the living room wall is evidence. "I miss him." She pressed further.
Jett slipped his hand around her waist and used his other hand to pull off her shawl. Lia looked away from his eyes that started to cast a blood red. When he pulled himself closer to her, she put her hands across her belly instinctively. The warm air felt chilly to her skin.
"I expect that you will hold onto the fantasy of being with him again. But you will crumble." Jett brought his hand behind her neck, bringing his face closer to hers. "You dont know yet, but you will learn to love me. Even if I have to be forceful."
Lia chew her lip, her insides twisted. Part of her wanted to tell him off and speak of how Vex would come and take him down. Then she remembered what happened to him when she was taken. He could be under intense care right now. She felt her eyes wanting to water. Or he might be
"How do you know Vex wont find me?"
Jett smiled. His phone vibrated, when he check the screen. He took Lias hand and guided them both out of his office. Leading them to the front door.
