Lia was still apprehensive about the deal she made with Julia. As Julia brought her around to show her the oversized snack table on the side lined with sweets, thoughts of Julias teeth puncturing her neck was twisting her insides. She rubbed her neck, feeling how tight her neck had become from her imagination. Lia hoped that she could talk Julia into taking her blood in a less painful manner, like a needle.
However, as much as she questioned her choices, Julia did keep her promise. Her fiance and Jett were busy talking with the other guest. Jett would occasionally meet her eyes, but he was ways away and seemed distracted.
Lia noticed how much younger her and Julia were compared to the other guest. Julia explained how vampires had to be older than one hundred with some status to be invited into these ceremonies Julia was able to get in with Masons age and status. Turns out Mason was one of the few who had the chance to become the next master vampire. Lia was here simply because of her status, property.
"Try this."
Lia stepped back when Julia shoved a strange red and gooey globe that was sliding around in a bowl. A slimy substance leaked off of it and created a mucus consistency around the bowl. Lia scrunched up her face and gently pushed the bowl away from her face.
"Is it blood?"
"Its human friendly." She shoved the small bowl into her hands. It tastes a lot better than it looks. "Trust me."
Lia grabbed the small fork that was already set in the bowl. She poked the small red ball with the fork and brought it to her lips. The red ball was too large for one bite, making her sink her teeth into the squishy ball. The small bite she took moved around her mouth as she chewed cautiously. Lia hummed, loving the sweet and doughy inside that was hidden underneath the red slim. It tasted richly of strawberries. The strange snack was more savory rather than sweet. She poked it again with the fork and took another larger bite.
"What is it?"
Julia shrugged, "No idea, the chefs who cook for these events do not label nor tell their recipes. Its kinda like playing Russian Roulette with the food. I'd ask me before you eat anything new."
Lia quickly finished the treat and was eager to reach for another red ball when a large hand grabbed her wrist. Unfamiliar with the hand she spooked, jolting back and pulling her hand away. Seeing Mason made her sigh of relief. Her hand rested on her chest to catch her breath. She quickly looked around to see Jett still a ways away, but he was looking her. He seemed more relaxed than when he first entered the ball room.
"Mason, dont sneak up on woman like that." Julia snapped grabbing another bowl of the red ball for Lia. "That's rude."
"She shouldnt be eating to many of those, Julia." Mason grabbed the bowl from her, handing it to a taller lady who was eyeing them. "Plus, Jett is very upset with you."
"Well tell him he can have his pet after the ceremony."
"She is his, Julia. You are being very disrespectful, especial for using my status."
Julia bit her lip. "He's a bad man, Mason."
Mason nodded, "He is, but I have my own priorities, which is you and my reputation. Lia needs to go back to Jett. Hes at least modest enough to not let it slip to anyone about the deal you made with her."
As Julia bickered with Mason, Lia looked aside, feeling her face go red. Their plan was a failure. Now she will have to face whatever Jett has planned for her. What scared her most was what Jett would think of her being so willing to share blood to a stranger just to avoid him. Whatever his reaction will be, it will not be good. Thinking of the possible outcomes made her cup her belly with her hands.
