Lia rolled in her bed. The mattress felt strange against her skin. It poked and scratched against her as she moved. Opening her eyes, she found herself laying on the forest floor with the blanket atop of her. The woods around her were pitch black, only an anonymous glow in the clearing she laid in was all that she had for light. The trees were unusually tall, their thin trunks stretch out high into the stars above her.

Slowly, she got up to her feet.

No noise was heard. She tried to step slowly, but the twigs and pine needles beneath her feet seemed to sound louder than normal. Lia decided not to move and to only look.

She smiled when she saw Damian. He was on a branch, way up in the trees, facing away. The glow was only close enough to make out his basic shape. She tried to call out his name, but it seemed as if something was keeping her from talking. She could only form the words in her mouth.

Damian finally turned to look at her. Her smile faded as he did. Her eyes widened at the sight, her heart beat rapidly in her chest. His skull was cracked, thick black ooze was draining from the gaping crack on his forehead. His lower jaw was broken, only half of it was dangling from his mouth.

Lia took a step back and covered her mouth as she silently gasps. Her step and loudly heard like before.

She tried to yell for him., to tell him to come down so she could help him.

"I am sorry, Lia."

Lia looked up to him confused. He never talked like that before. His usually raspy voice was the same, but his mischievous glint was gone. He turned back away, his body started convulsing.

"Its best you run now."

Lia tried to speak again, confused, but could only watched in horror as Damian seemed to get worse. Unknown injuries started to appear and rip him apart. Lia covered her eyes as Damian was ripped apart. She tried to cover her ears as the sound of ripping flesh and cracks of bone was heard. He dropped from the high branch. His fall ended was a soft thud.

Lia turned around and covered her head. She cried silently. Her cries were interrupted when the soft glow grew and illuminated the woods far beyond the clearing. Lia looked around. Wiping her tears she stood back up and took another step.

She jumped, started by how loud her steps were. They echoed through the woods.

She squinted her eyes when she saw something moving at the edge of the darkness. It'd poke into the light then stagger back out. Not wanting to make the loud steps again, she stayed put and hoped it'd come back into sight again.

It did. It was Vex.

In shear excitement, Lia ran as fast as she could towards him. Her steps startled her again as she ran unevenly his way. Tears ran down her cheeks as she called his name. She couldn't hear her voice, but he seemed to have heard it.

Lia slowed when she saw him trying to shoo her away. He was gimping badly and was yelling something just quiet enough for her to hear, but not comprehend. Picking up the pace again, she ignored him and made her way to him.

"I'm sorry," that's what Vex was yelling. He cried and wailed through the words and he repeated it over and over again.

Panic came to her in less than an instant. She froze when she was finally able to clearly see Vex. His bones were growing, stretching his skin and muscles. His face was becoming ripped and sunken in as bones around his joints started to show. Thick black goo dripped from his ne wounds and burned the ground beneath him like acid.

He grew crooked and lanky, towering over Lia. His voice more broken like static as he cried. Lia couldn't see Vex no more as all his features were ripped away.
