Author's note...
I know little about guns and I don't know what it takes to own one. Safety and where to aim is all I know. So I might say some things that are incorrect about guns.

Jake has only been to the small indoor shooting range for his conceal carry permit. With only five spots to shoot and mostly empty, due to the fact that there was more spots out in the country to shoot that were more roomy and open. Also the shooting range cost money to use. Jake decided to take her here so he didn't have to deal with others.

He didn't know a lot about guns. He knew how to shoot them, he was smart around them.

Looking down at the gun at his hand he was amazed. The gun was heavy, almost a white shiny silver, and extremely smooth. He loaded it with the bullets he bought before coming to the shooting range. Loading it was easy and everything moved against each other flawlessly.

"Where did you get this?" Jake asked as he continued to looked at the gun in his hand.

Lia was tugging with the end of her sleeves. The man at the desk wanted her proof of ownership of the gun, but Jake played with his words and managed to get the man to let her walk in. Jake, when they reached the farthest spot, asked why she didn't have any permit or ownership. She said it was given to her. It was eating her up on the inside. She just lied to the man at the front desk, well Jake was the one talking, but she was the one who went along with it. Lia didn't want to be a liar. If Jake started asking too many questions, she was afraid she might have to lie to him too.

"A friend gave it to me." Lia mumbled.

Jake outstretched his arms to aim down the sight. The sights were different shapes than he was used to, but the sights were beautiful nonetheless. "Please speak up. I don't hear well."

Lia played with her fingers, "I'm sorry. I uh, got it from a friend." She was more clear this time when she spoke.

"Don't be sorry, I lost some of my hearing working in the factory near here when I was younger." Jake looked down the range. "I was too stuck up to wear ear protection." Putting the gun on the surface in front of him he grabbed the two ear muffs. "When's the last time the scope has been check?"

Lia grabbed the muffs and put them on her head. She left them to set just above her ears. "I'm not sure." She looked at the silver gun Jake picked up again. "A long time possibly?"

Jake nodded, "Let me shoot first to see how off the sight is."

Lia pulled down her ear muffs and gave a thumbs up.

Jake looked down the sight again. Down the range was a pristine target sheet. A bright white light was shining brightly at it. Despite most of the range dark and dull, he had a clean view of the target. Pulling back the hammer, he slowly breathed in, then he slowly breathed out. Then he pulled the trigger.

The gun was a lot louder than he thought it would be. The muffs helped but it was a little startling. The gun also had a lot more kick than he thought. The handle felt so comfortable in his hand. His gun would hurt the spot between his thumb and pointer finger, but this gun. It's handle made the kick back feel so nice.

Looking down the range he could clearly see the hole. Right in the center of the target. The sight was perfect.

He turned to Lia with a smile. "This gun is fucking awesome." His smile died when he saw her face.

Lia had her hands pressing against her ears. She looked a little more startle than he was.

"You wanna give it a try?"

Lia nodded her head hesitantly. It was obvious she didn't want anything to do with the gun.

"Come here," Jake smiled again.
