Vex is correct that Lia is oblivious to many things. However, she doesn't miss everything. Lia knew that Vex was lying. He seems so caught up in his thoughts. His face will strain it was almost like he's trying to telepathically remove the problem. She had no clue what it could be but she was certain that it was not good.
For it to be bothering Vex it must be something very bad. Before most things didn't get to Vex. There's probably many things Vex is hiding from Lia that he has been through and has done. He probably has many regrets. Lia has no secrets like that.
She looked at her hands, rubbing them together slightly. She only had silly insecurities that she was hiding. Its nothing compared to what Vex could be holding on his shoulders.
Right now she was with the goats. She had just scrubbed their water bin from the algae that had started to grow at the bottom and was now filling it back up. The clear water sloshed at the bottom before settling into a slow current. Looking behind her she eyed the billy goat. He was almost knocked her down twice. And now she is on constant watch of him.
He was a very mean goat.
Looking out to the barn she could see Vex throwing bales with the farmer. While the old man threw them off the baler Vex threw them into the stack.
Vex wore a tank top and blue jeans. The blue jeans were spattered with some mud and oil stains. It was strange seeing him in that clothes. He didn't usually wear his jeans. With his large arms he threw them high with ease. His strength has always blown Lia's mind. He was undoubtedly fit, but he didn't look broad enough to throw them so high.Hearing the water pour out of the overfilling bin Lia rushed the hose out and turned off the faucet. The goats collected around the water trough to drink. Their little tales wagged. Lia smiled at the sight.
As she hung the hose back up she was startled by a loud bang before she could sink herself back into her thoughts. She looked out to where Vex was again as saw the baler's angine smoking. She could see Vex trying to calm down the old man. His was flinging his hat around as he kick its wheel. Knowing that they were ok Lia smiled. That farmer can never get a break.
The whole day was centered around the chores. Lia wasn't bothered though, if she and Vex didn't work Greg would be out here for hours in the hot sun. And besides, she loved the animals. The rooster tried to spur her as she fed the chickens but besides that she gave all the animals her undivided attention.
Even the crazy billy goat.
After she finished brushing out the old horse she made her way back to the small house for a shower. On the porch she saw the sun shining low. The railing on the porch shadowed across the deck. Along with the chicken that had settled on the railing by the stairs. The days pasted by fast, especially on the farm. She smiled as she admired the colors of the disappearing sun. She couldn't wait to have her own home. Her own home with Vex.
Walking into the house, she rushed through her shower. The water was warm and made the air outside more chilly than it really was. With a large sweater on and some pajama pants she walked back to the kitchen to cook her and Vex some dinner.
She never enjoyed cooking until she met Vex. Vex made cooking more than a task. He made it fun. He loved to experiment with his cooking. Every meal he made was so different. Lia smiled, whenever she tried to change a recipe she'd ruin it.
She used to fear making mistakes, but now she embraced them.
When she heard the door open she didn't turn around. A warm, soft feeling grew in her chest as she heard the footsteps approached. The footsteps sounded quietly through the room and around the island to her. Once behind her, the familiar arms wrapped themselves around her belly and a familiar weight was set atop her head.
