It had been 9 months since Elsie was born.
"WWAAAA MAMA!" Elsie screamed. When did this become my life? Not to self NEVER get drunk again.
"I'm coming Elsie."I called, walking to Dan and I's bedroom. Elsie was sitting up in her cot, crying her little heart out. Dan was at the hospital, checking on his cancer. The tumor was slowly getting smaller and we were hoping that he got better soon. I picked Elsie up and Kate walked in behind me. Kate and Phil were now very serious and she was over most of the time.
"Do you want me to take her Jess?" Kate asked me.
"No, it's fine Kate." I told her. I picked Elsie up and rocked her in my arms. "Shhh baby, shhh"
Then I got a text from Zoe:
YO! Do you want to have that girls night?
I smiled and replied;
Of course, I can leave Elsie at mine and come over if you want?
Okay, when do you want to come over?
I don't mind. Tonight?
Sure, see you then, I'll pick you up at 5.
Then Dan came through the door, singing:
"I like Bananas
I like bananas in the sunshine, sunshine
Sunshine bananas
I like bananas
I like bananas on the moon
Moon, moon, moon."
He came up the stairs and saw me holding Elsie
"How are my beautiful girls then?" He asked, Kissing Elsie and then kissing me.
"Fine." I said
"Sure?" He asked taking Elsie.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that question Dan?"
"I'm fine, you know apart from the cancer." We had learned to joke about it now instead of moping around the house and being careful what we said. Everything was starting to be like it used to be and I loved it. I kissed him and walked into the living room.
Dan walked in after me and put Elsie on the floor to play with her toys. He sat on the couch with me and put his arm around my shoulders. "You okay Jess?" He asked
"Yea, it's just..."I said
"What?"
"Zoe invited me to hers for that girls night that we've been planning for ages tonight."
"When? It'll be good for you."
"She's picking me up at about 5 and stuff."
"Great."
"It's just I feel so guilty for leaving you two."
"You shouldn't, you can't be together all the time and she's gorgeous. How could you not want to spend time with her?" I looked at my daughter, her brown eyes looked just like her Dad's, her brown hair was nearly shoulder length, she had a little button nose and a small mouth. She was perfect. The perfect little girl. I smiled and looked at Dan.
"She's gonna be a heart breaker."
"Just like her mother." I lent up and kissed him.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Umm..." Phil said in the doorway. We pulled away and I smiled. I didn't get embarrassed anymore, Phil had walked in on worse. "What's for dinner?"
"Anything, I'm going out." I told him
"Out? Where?"
"Zoe's, I miss her"
"So do I, send her my wishes."
"She's coming here to pick me up, she'll defiantly want to meet Elsie."
"Don't let her get any ideas though, I don't think Alfie would be too fond about it"
"But could you imagine a Zalie baby?"
"I don't really want to, I don't fangirl about my friends. Or ship them."
"Ah, but you ship Jan Phil."
"So, you two arn't my Friends, your just some strangers with a kid that I took off the street."
Dan got a pillow and threw it at Phil "Go get yourself some food Phil!" He told him. At that Phil walked off, mumbling.
"I want some tea." I stated, getting up
"Nope." Dan protested, pulling me back to the couch.
"But Dan..."
"Nope, I'm not gonna see you for like a day, you are staying right here. Phil get Jess a tea!"
"Ugh, fine." He kissed me and then Elsie came waddling over
"Dan." Elsie said unsurly
"Oi, how did you know that was Daddy's name?" Dan asked
"Phil"
He rolled his eyes. "Call me Daddy Els"
"Okay."
I grabbed her and put her inbetween Dan and I and then we watched some kids shows. This is my new life and I love it.
