In the days after Ganon's attack, Princess Zelda found a temporary way to contain him so that he couldn't leave Hyrule castle. However, this meant she would have to abandon everything she had within the castle walls. She eventually built a house for herself in the Hyrule Ridge region. Close enough to keep an eye on Ganon but also isolated enough for her to be by herself. Since her father, the king, had died she became the youngest queen of Hyrule. She thought that she didn't deserve this title and still felt that everyone hated her for not being able to unlock the sealing power of the Goddess Hylia or saving Hyrule. With a new mission in mind, she kept herself busy with her studies. Day in and day out, she put every ounce into trying to awaken her power and develop a way to rid Hyrule of Ganon. With Link gone and only a few Hylian soldiers left, she asked to be trained so that she could at least defend herself if anything were to happen. She was Ganon's primary target after all. In her free time, she searched for the new hero of Hyrule.
In hopes of saving the relationships she once had with the Gerudo, Zora, Rito, and Gordon tribes, she apologized to their current leaders for not being able to keep the Champions safe. That's the only thing she could do. What else could she have done? She was responsible for the death of someone's sister, daughter, son, or beloved leader.
