Warnings: threatening loved ones through a single person, angst
Summary: You don't want to live in your big brother's shadow for a moment longer. You can do hat he can do, but better, so you're branching off to do your own thing. Everyone knows how good you are, and the down side of everyone knowing is that everyone knows... including your enemies.

"Watch where you step," you order your older brother as you lead him into your very own lab.
"You know I have a lab bigger and better than this, right?" he asks, looking around the crowded lab.
You two are inventors just with different agendas. You love working with your hands, to create something out of nowhere, and to have it work so that other people can use it. You're an engineer and a mechanic, and you know how to do a lot of things–better than most people. Your lab is filled with robotic parts, lots of equipment, and tons of toys that only you know how to use (besides Tony). Tony knows how to do what you do, but you don't want to live in his shadow.
You've been doing it your entire life.
If Tony did something, then you had to do it better. He was always the star child, impressing Father and Mother even though they never said it. You could tell by the way they looked at his inventions, especially Father. He wasn't the most loving dad in the entire world, but he did know how to take care of his children. Mother always gave Tony praise, babying him into who he is today.
Why can't you be more like your brother? Why can't you do what Tony does? Would it kill you to act like him?
You've gotten those and much more about how you should be like Tony. You could create something bigger and better than him, and your parents would always try and compare you to him–downgrade whatever you made because it didn't fit what they thought was good. Everything Tony did, they adored, so it didn't matter what you made unless it was another Tony. He got all the awards, did all the work, and you got none of the credit. He tried to tell your parents how much you worked, but they wouldn't listen. You'd get the same awards, but it didn't matter since Tony got them first.
When you were old enough to move out of the house, you did, and you got your own job to shine in the way you were always meant to. Branching out meant you learned a lot more than Tony, making you the better Stark. You're able to create things Tony can only dream of, but he took over the family business: Stark Industries. He took after your father, but you decided to do your own thing.
The last thing you need is to have the world compare you to your brother and your father. This way, you get to be your own person and do your own thing without having to be judged and compared. You try not to slap a "Stark" name onto your products, just your name. People need to know that the things you create, youcreated them and not Tony.
You're happy at your job since they were able to provide you with a whole ass lab and technically unlimited resources to get you anything you might need. It's a sweet gig, and you don't want to give this up anytime soon. The company practically leaves you alone unless they need to talk to you about your budget account. You try to keep everything within limits, but they still like to check in from time to time.
It's been nothing but craziness here since you first opened it, so you're only now able to get your brother in here to show him what you've been working on. Your brother and your father are known for making deadly weapons that they sell all over the world. As much as you don't want to do that, you decided to create things that people can use for the better of mankind.
