Bucky's been through so much lately with HYDRA and being their personal punching bag mentally, emotionally, and physically. He doesn't know what is real, who to trust, or what he's supposed to do now that he is free from their clutches. All he does know is that he feels safe in your arms, knowing that there is a tiny sliver of good in this world.
His head is on your chest, he is slightly shaking from fear or nervousness (you're not sure), and he's clinging to you as if you will disappear if he lets go even slightly. His breathing is ragged, so you do the only thing you know will calm him down. He's spent a lot of time with Russian people, learning what they teach him. He knows Russian very well, and you're lucky you took a class on Russian in high school.
One of your favorite lullabies from when you were a child is Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It may not be a popular lullaby, but it's the one your mom sang you almost every night when you were a kid. You believe Bucky would feel a lot better if you sang this to him in Russian. You run your fingers through his hair gently, untangling it as best as you can without hurting him.
You begin to sing the song about hope and knowing there is something better right around the corner. The more you sing, the more Bucky relaxes in your arms. His grip gets looser, his breathing slows down, and his shaking stops. You hold him and continue to sing, silently letting him know that you're not going anywhere...
And if he lets you, you can be the good that's over the rainbow.
