As the train pulled into the station, Eleanor grabbed her bag from the overhead rack, chucking it over her shoulder before she disembarked the train.
Upon stepping into the trains platform she was instantly hit by the sharp Scottish wind, something she definitely hadn't missed over the summer. Everyone followed out behind her tucking their hands into their armpits for extra warmth, well everyone except Draco, who had disappeared in the crowd to find Crabbe and Goyle. They were probably off tormenting some poor first year.
The platform was packed with students who all hurried down the steps to follow the small path that led towards the carriages. Eleanor caught sight of the small brunette boy Theo had chased through the train, his eyes were damp and puffy as he wiped them with his sleeve. The young boy instantly turned away and disappeared into the sea of students when he saw Theo emerge through the crowd, who just happened to have chocolate stains in the corner of his proud upturned mouth.
The small dirt path leading towards the carriages was littered with floating lanterns and enchanted candles to guide their way, this was a much nicer arrival than last year in those dingy boats. The next carriage pulled up in front of the group as Eleanor came face to face with a unknown creature.
One which could only be described as a mixture of a horse and a reptile, it's flesh resembled old beat leather and it clung to the creatures skeleton as two large wings sprout out its body. It looked like something from an ancient horror story yet she found them quite hauntingly beautiful.
Eleanor stared into the creatures white misted eyes, they were emotionless and cold. "What's this?" She asks the others, turning to them in confusion.
Daphne turned to Eleanor as she tossed her bag into the carriage, "What's what?"
The creature beside her snorted, sending its hot breath rippling across Eleanors bare chest. "The creature that's pulling the carriage. The one that's literally breathing down my neck right now." She replied with a creased brow.
Blaises mouth pouted as he appeared over the edge of the carriage next to Daphne. "There's nothing there the carriage pulls itself, as always. Didn't you travel by one last year?"
"No I travelled by boat with the first years." Eleanor says readjusting the bag on her shoulder, "But there's something here, can't you see it?"
Blaise shrugged. "What about the ride back to the station?"
"Dumbledore put me under that potion, I can't remember anything from the trip back to London, I woke up in my bed the next day." Eleanor said scratching her head in doubt. "You really can't see them?"
Blaise shook his head and took his seat aboard the carriage, Eleanor frowned to herself she can't be the only one who sees them. A more important question would be how can she see them but the others can't?
"Thank Merlin you see them too, I thought I was going batshit crazy." Adrian said appearing behind the group, bag tossed on the ground beside him. He ran his nimble hand through his loosely slick back hair as Eleanor sped over to him.
They each embraced the other in a hug, they'd become quite close over the summer through Eleanors grieving period. She found him to be the closest one to understanding, Adrian would regularly send her letters filled with sweets and small jokes to keep her spirits high after Cedrics death. Unlike the other Slytherins, he understood what it was like to lose someone close to them.
"How come we didn't get greeted like that." Pansy called out as the pair broke apart, she was also hanging the top half of her torso over the side of the carriage.
Eleanor rolled her eyes and stuck her middle finger up at her before climbing onto the carriage next to Theo.
Adrian laughed picking his bag off the ground, "Where's Mr Happy?" He asked sarcastically, his eyes darting between the group.
