It had been a long nine days.
Nine whole days.
Sirius didn't speak to her for the remainder of the Christmas break, in fact he'd turn and disappear around every corner if Eleanor happen to run into him. He went to every measure within the house to avoid her so he wouldn't be bombarded by her questions. To the point Eleanor had even convinced herself he'd put a jinx on his bedroom door so she couldn't find it.
It wasn't just him, Eleanor had quickly noticed the other adults joining in on Sirius' little game too. In fact a few days after Christmas she'd caught them holding a meeting late at night when they believed everyone else to be asleep. She only happened to hear them creep past her bedroom door in the early hours of the morning as she couldn't sleep due to Ginnys constant kicking. What Sirius had said still played on the mind, repeating itself. Constantly looping in circles, the look on his face whilst he stare at Eleanor like he'd see a ghost made her feel uneasy. At first she speculated they may be meeting about the order but when it was only the adults included, it was clear that it was about something else. Something they were planning on keeping hiding from the rest of them including Harry. Eleanor had realised they'd casted a silencing charm around the room as no matter how hard she pressed her ear up against the door she couldn't hear a thing. Why be so secretive, she thought. Her last resort was hiding in one of the broom cupboards so she didn't get caught when they came of of the kitchen half an hour later. They were all there glum faced and stricken. Even Kingsley, Tonks we're in attendance even McGonagall, who Eleanor was most surprised at seeing as she should be at Hogwarts taking care of those who stayed for the holidays.
Over the past coming days Molly, Arthur, Remus and Tonks would cast her strange vacant looks from across the room whenever they happened to be sharing a meal together. Sirius didn't even bother to make an appearance. Upon Eleanor asking them if something was wrong they'd just excuse themselves and hurry along as if they've got work to do.
Apart from a brief encounter with Kingsley and Mad-eye when they had cornered her in the drawing room the evening before she was due to return to Hogwarts, she was left in the dark as to what was going on. They hadn't even said anything to clear her heavy head either, only just swearing her to secrecy upon the sake of the order. They even forbade her to even mention it to any of her friends, as Mad-eye forcibly told Eleanor that Sirius shouldn't have been so stupid as to open his mouth in the first place. Eleanor thought that was quite absurd as they didn't dismiss nor correct his comment but they seemed so worried about the consequences it may cause. Apparently as Kingsley ever so stated that that evening Sirius could put the whole order in danger if he wasn't careful. Danger?
It had only made matters worse, her brain would fog with confusion and frustration as no matter how many times she'd try to tell them they got it wrong they wouldn't listen. She knew her mother wasn't dead, not only that she wouldn't keep being a part of the order secret from Eleanor, it was clear, she just knew Sirius was mistaken.
Eleanor hadn't told any of the others, even if was she was allowed to, none of them would believe her, it sounded like madness within its self especially when she had no proof. Upon her trying to find the trunk the next evening which held the evidence she needed, she'd found it to be gone. Pulled from the damp corner of the room it once sat, so seemingly any proof of what she had to say was true disappeared with it.
How would she even start that conversation anyway? Hey you know my mum, the one who designed your Yule Ball gowns, apparently she was part of the Order a secret organisation you don't know about when I was a baby. Oh and even better she's supposedly dead and I'm living with an imposter! Eleanors thought she'd perhaps end up in St Mungos if she raved about it too much.
Sirius has got it wrong though she's not dead, she couldn't be. Eleanor had been living with her mother for the past sixteen years, she's alive and well so why does Sirius with the rest of the order think otherwise is still a conspiracy. Although her mother never mentioned the tiniest peep about about the order or her connection to the Potters/Weasleys throughout the whole thing.
