She woke up the next morning with the Black Lake tinting the room a shade of green haze and a low muffled humming emitting from the bathroom. That probably meant Daphne was having a shower.
Eleanor sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes, noticing Pansys bed lay empty beside the bathroom with the duvet strewn across the floor. Eleanor frowned to herself, it was odd as Pansy was definitely anything but a morning person, especially on a weekend.
She crossed her legs under the sheets and used the alone time she had to organise all her thoughts from last night. Eleanor let a wide grin cross her lips, she brought her hands up to her cheeks squeezing them until they hurt at the thought of what Rodger did last night in the middle of the room of requirement.
He made her his. She now has a boyfriend and it was her sixteenth birthday, today. Maybe her life was taking a turn for the better.
He was all she could think about.
They way he laughed with her causing small wrinkles to appear in the corners of his eyes, how he smiled at her when he thought she wasn't looking, the way his fingers left on top her skin as they touched was everything. She couldn't get enough of him.
Her peace was suddenly interrupted when Pansy barged through the door in her green silk pyjamas, she held a letter and large box in her arms to which Eleanor instantly recognised to be from her mothers gift closet.
"You're up." Pansy chirps in surprise, kicking the door shut with her foot.
She didn't give Eleanor a chance to reply before she spoke again. "I can't stay long, I've had strict orders from Adrian to drop this off and then return to the common room." She dropped the box on the end of the bed and strolled back towards the door. "They've got me working like I'm some fucking house elf. Ohh- and Daphnes been ordered to keep you in here until everything's ready this evening."
She left as soon as she arrived leaving Eleanor without the chance to even say thank you or to ask how'll she get breakfast. Never mind, she'll eat later.
The humming still purred from the within the shower as she reached over to pull the box across her duvet. The box was just as heavy as the one her Yule Ball arrived in last year- her mother bet not have made her a full blown gown for a common room party.
She untied the black ribbon and tossed the lid aside. Revealing the crisp white wrapping that hid her dress within and small ivory note neatly placed on top.
Eleanor,
Happy birthday darling
Love M and F xHer nerves heightened as she pushed the wrapping aside to reveal the dress nearly tucked away, waiting on her. She could've chocked on her own tongue when she saw the colour, a devilish smirk grew replacing the look of pure shock.
Her mother knew what she was doing.
It was the envelope that caught her attention though. It lay beside her on the bed almost forgotten until she recognised the handwriting to be her fathers. Intrigued, Eleanor slid her thumb under the family crest and opened the envelope.
Eleanor,
It has come to our attention that your mother and I have to attend business over Christmas, you will therefore have to stay at school as we will not be back in time to celebrate it with you. We know how much you were looking forward to coming home this year but unfortunately our hands are tied and there is nothing we can do.
Maybe you could stay with someone over the holiday?
