Eleanor released the breath she'd been holding in the whole walk here, she'd managed to avoid her fellow Slytherins all day by either hiding in her common room or the toilets. Now she was face to face with a oak office door, that may or may not have a very grumpy dwarf sat behind it.
She gently knocked her knuckles three times against the wood and waited upon a response, hoping there would be no one in but after a few seconds a wretched voice spoke. "Come in!" They finally called from inside.
Eleanor pushed the door open to reveal Umbridge sat behind her desk, petite China teacup and saucer in her hand as Harry sat across the other end looking rather glum. The room had been painted a vile shade of baby pink with small china plates decorated with cats covering the walls. She dropped in the empty seat beside Harry as he gave her a look of despair, pulling herself as close to the desk as possible.
This was going to be absolute torture."Ah Miss Gray, you're late!" Umbridge gazed at her as she sat down, her face pulled tight. "You're both going to be doing some lines for me today. But not with your quills, I have some of my own for you to use." She pulled out two black quills from her desk draw and handed them to the students.
"I'd like you both to write, I must not tell lies." Eleanor glanced at Harry, her mouth set in a hard thin line as Umbridge circled the pair.
"How many lines would you like us to write?" Harry coldly asked tilting his head up to her.
Umbridge glanced between the pair, she paused for a moment before holding her hands together behind her back. "As long as it takes for the message to sink in for the both of you."
Eleanor glanced at her desk there only lay a quill and a blank piece of parchment. "What about ink?"
"You won't be needing it."
Eleanor frowned to herself but picked up her quill, at least this was going to be an easy detention.
I must not tell lies
I must not tell lies
I must not teA scorching tingle sizzled through the back of Eleanors skin and spread until it felt like her hand had been placed into an open fire. Eleanor winced as she wrote line after line, although the pain seemed to fester every time she put the quill to the parchment. She glanced at her hand to see a large red rash had appeared with small cuts carved into her flesh spelling out 'I must not tell lies.' A small gasp feel from her lips as she ran her finger over the gash.
"Is something wrong?" Umbridge stood over her beading down with shrunken eyes, Eleanor could see her smug smile beneath the worried mask she was putting on.
In this moment Eleanor eyes stared up at her in fear, she didn't know what this woman was capable of. "No" she choked out, grabbing hold of her own wrist.
"That's right, because deep down you both know you deserve this." She widely smiled at the pair before taking a seat behind her desk once more.
Eleanor stepped through the opening to the empty common room, she was glad Draco and Pansy had prefect rounds tonight as she could not be dealing him right now. Her hand was sore and deeply throbbed with every tiny movement.
Entering her dorm was silent as Daphne softly slept in her bed, Eleanor quickly stripped off her uniform and tugged her fathers jumper over her head. She winced in pain as the fabric rubbed along the fresh wound causing wool to catch on the edges of the cuts, this was only day one out of five for her detentions.
She clambered into bed pulling the emerald curtains across so she didn't wake Daphne and lowly cast lumos. The light showed the damage Umbridge caused. The cuts throbbed as she traced her index finger along the letters, it was surrounded by angry red scratches from where Eleanor had been itching her hand on the trip back.
