Chapter 16- Littlest Recruit

Previously:

"Well Eri, do you wanna see what the rest of this place has to offer?" She nodded, and with that, you grabbed her hand and took her for a tour around the Sanctuary. 

Currently:

You two started with where every house tour starts, the entrance. "Alright Eri, this is where we came in."

Her eyes became sparkly, "Oh yeah! You did the magic." She then got into a crouch and raised her hands, "Open sesame!" Watching her try to imitate you was adorable.

You smiled and tried to hold in a laugh, "Yep, where I did the magic." You ruffled her hair and noticed how greasy and tangled it was. "Remind me to get you a bath later, okay?"

She wasn't listening to you though, she was still trying to perform magic. She then turned to you, "So what's next magic man?"

"Next is the big room you saw" You two make your way to the big room in the middle. "This is where we do the bulk of our training."

"What do you train for?"

You were a little hesitant to answer, how do explain to a child that you kill people? "Uhh, uhm, w-we fight, and make bad guys disappear?" It was more of a question than a statement.

Her eyes then got sparkly again, "So you're a hero magic man?!" She was bouncing in place, she then suddenly . "Wait, you said training, does that mean I can become a magic girl? Can you teach me?"

With the stars in her eyes, the constant bouncing, and just her adorableness in general, it was almost impossible to say no. You had to look back in order to not put a sword in her hand right now. "Maybe when you're better. You're probably really hungry, and we should check to make sure you're not sick."

Her mood dropped a little bit, "Oh, okay."

Seeing this, you kneeled down to her level, "As soon as we know you're healthy, we can start training you, okay?" She nodded, "Good, now lets move on with the tour."

You two made your way to the left into the library. "Is this where you keep your spells?"

This whole bit of her thinking you were a wizard was pretty damn cute, and you couldn't break that illusion for her. Plus, you do know a bit of sleight of hand, it comes with the turf of pickpocketing. "Kind of. Speaking of books and learning, you seem pretty smart for your age."

She got really excited, "Oh yeah, mommy liked to teach me lots of things." But then her expression darkened, "Then the bad things happened. I made daddy go away, *sniff* and then mommy started to look at me weird. *Sniff* I tried to find out why, but *sniff* she just called me 'cursed' and then..." She was starting to cry again. 

You pulled her into another hug, and rubbing circles in her back. Tears were hitting your shoulder and her grip on your shirt got tighter. You picked her up and just rocked her in your arms. It wasn't long before she fell asleep in your embrace. 

You decided that the tour would have to wait. You brought her to the barracks so she could get some sleep. However, as soon as you went to put her down. She whimpered and just held on tighter. 

Realizing you weren't going to get out of this, you just walked back to your room. Toga who was already laying down and just looking at her phone, looked up at you and the sleeping girl clinging to you. 

She scooted over enough for you to get in bed. You laid down, and as soon as you did Toga moved to be cuddled up to your arm and M jumped up on the foot of the bed. "So what happened?"

You looked down at your chest, "I asked her how she was so smart then she got all excited. She talked about how her mom taught her things and seemed to like doing it. But when her incident happened her mother started to see her differently and called her cursed. After that she couldn't continue." You pulled Toga closer to you. "Do you think you can bathe her tomorrow? After, you get to know each other of course."

"Of course, but let's just go to sleep. Tomorrow is gonna be hectic."

The next morning was actually pretty calm despite Toga's prediction. Eri woke up before anyone else, at first scared because she didn't recognize where she was. As soon as she felt your warm embrace she started to calm down. 

Then you woke up because she did. You kept her in your arms until you felt her muscles relax. You then lifted them to see her. Her muscles were relaxed, but her eyes were wandering. As soon as they landed on you, she clutched to your shirt. It was like she was confirming it was you and not someone else. 

"You alright Eri?" You whispered, you didn't want to wake up Toga. 

She nodded, "Mhm."

You looked at Toga, and she was still asleep. "Alright let's get some breakfast." You escaped from the bed, and led Eri to the kitchen where you made a simple breakfast of bacon, eggs, and hash browns. You made three plates, two for you and Eri, and the last one for Toga when she wakes up.

While you and Eri eat, Toga walks in still half-asleep. "*yawn* Mornin' Y/N."

She walked behind you where you pulled her down into a kiss, "Morning Toga."

Eri was hesitant of the new face, having not seen it this morning, or the day before. "W-who're you?"

Toga, woke up a little more, and looked at Eri, "Oh, sweety, I'm Himiko Toga, I work with Y/N. We're partners!"

Eri looked at you, and you nodded in confirmation. She looked back at Toga, "Does that mean you're gonna train me too?"

It was Toga's turn to look at you. You nodded to her, Toga looked back to Eri, "If you'll have me."

Eri jumped out of her seat to looked to Toga, then bowed, "I'm ready Sensei's."

Thus the brotherhood, gained their littlest and most adorable recruit.
