Alyssa and I walk down the halls, weaving through the groups of people in the heavily congested corridor. Classes had ended early today as it is the last day of classes before our Christmas break. Our arms are hooked, and I give a polite smile to everyone who greets us. "Bye, have a happy Christmas break!" I'd say, and Alyssa would snicker and tell me I sound more like a Hufflepuff than her.
"By the way," she earns my attention again as I catch sight of the Golden Trio near the end of the corridor. "Are you coming to the Astronomy tower later? They want to hang out tonight." I don't have to ask who 'they' is— Theo, Blaise, Draco, and Fin.
I nod, "yeah, but I have to go to Hogsmeade first."
She raises a brow. "Oh? For what?"
"I just want to double check something with one of the gifts I bought." I tell her, fiddling with my fingers. I had been a bit upset lately that I couldn't think of something special to give to Draco. But an idea hit me last night. I know he's been wearing a ring recently, it was his fathers, a family heirloom. But I also know how hesitant he is with his family and their beliefs. My idea might not be as sentimental as I would want it, but I have no idea what to get him other than this. I mean, what do you get someone who could buy anything?
"Do you want me to come?" She offers, but I shake my head.
"It's fine," I wave her off. We separate near the staircase, and I continue walking to the exit. Hermione notices me as I come near and waves me over with a bright smile.
As soon as I'm close enough, she pulls me into a loose hug. "Mauve! Happy Christmas!" She cheers. Harry and Ron stand awkwardly nearby.
"Happy Christmas, Mione!" I smile at her as we pull apart. Turning to Ron and Harry, I give them a small nod. "Happy Christmas to you two as well."
"Happy Christmas," Harry gives me an awkward pat on the shoulder and I chuckle.
"Happy Christmas!" Ron passes me a chocolate frog with an uneasy smile. "Sorry for what I said before. You seem nicer than I thought." It's not a whole speech, but it seems genuine enough for me.
"It's water under the bridge," I reply with a half-smile. "Truce?"
"Truce."
Hermione breaks into a wide grin. "Oh, this is great! I can finally be around all of you at the same time!" After a while of talking, I tell them I ought to make my way to Hogsmeade before dinner. They bid me goodbye, but I only make it a few steps before my name is being called again.
I spin around with a curious look, finding Harry holding a medium-sized gift bag. I arch a brow, I didn't notice him holding it earlier.
He pushes the bag into my hands with an awkward smile. "For you, happy Christmas, Mauve."
