I'm sitting with Hermione in the library, chatting with our books open in front of us, basically begging for us to give them attention. We had been telling each other about our adventures in muggle school, which seems to be much less interesting than any other year in Hogwarts.

We're interrupted when Harry approaches us, fiddling his fingers and speaking in a timid tone, not sounding anything near to the confident Gryffindor he usually is. "Hey, could I borrow Mauve for a second?" He asks Hermione, though his eyes are trained on me instead.

Hermione nods, a knowing look in her eyes as she slightly pushes me towards him. "Of course!" She beams, sending him two thumbs up. Perking a brow, I raise from my seat and follow him to behind the bookshelves to the back of the library, where I once stood with Draco.

"Hi," he smiles when we're isolated from the other students roaming in the library.

"Hey, what's up?" I inquire, brimming with curiosity at his sudden nervousness.

He sighs, open his mouth for a second before closing it without saying anything. Harry runs a hand through his brown hair, looking noticeably hesitant. "Okay, I'm just going to be straight with you," he gulps, staring at me straight in the eyes. "I like you, Mauve. And I don't know if you like me too, but I just wanted to tell you."

My eyes widen immensely. That was not what I was expecting at all. "Oh- I-I, wow, I don't know what to say..." I trail off awkwardly.

The light in Harry's eyes falters at my response, as if he knows I don't return the feelings that he has for me. "So umm.. I guess I shouldn't ask you out or anything, huh?" An awkward chuckle escapes from his mouth.

I give him a sad smile, "I'm really sorry, Harry. We can still be friends." I offer with a slight grimace at the situation. I feel really bad.

He nods, gulping again. "Y-yeah, that'd be nice. I'll uh, I'll see you around, Mauve." Without another word, he disappears behind the rows of books. I sigh, immediately facepalming. How do I get myself into these situations?

When I return back to the table, Hermione already seems to know the verdict. Biting her lip, she confesses, "I hope this doesn't affect our friendship, I like having you around, Mauve."

I smile, "me too, Mione." I pause, hesitantly observing her before I continue. "I feel really bad. I didn't expect him to tell me he liked me." I tell her.

Hermione chuckles, shaking her head. "Really?" She laughs, "I thought it was obvious, really. He liked you for awhile now, I think."

I purse my lips, "he's a great guy, but..." I sigh, laying my head on the table. "Can I tell you something, Hermione?" I ask, desperately wanting to get it off my chest.

She nods, "of course," her voice is soft and comforting. "What's going on?"

Taking a breath, I reveal, "I turned down Harry because I like someone, someone I shouldn't, and I've been trying o get over them. I don't want Harry to be something like a rebound when he genuinely likes me." I confess.
