I packed Annabella's bag before I packed mine.
"Annabella, do you need to use the bathroom?" I whispered.
"Yea," she said loudly running to the bathroom.
"Stop yelling," I gritted, "you'll wake up Robert."
When I had everything that I can carry in the bags, Annabella came out.
"Come on, let's go get some food," I said placing her bag on her back and grabbing her hand. I moved swiftly through the house and to the kitchen, careful not to make any noise.
I packed small things like fruits, bottles of waters, packets of juice, granola bars, and other things for us to eat. Then I carried Annabella out of the house.
Living in the middle of no where and having no friends was a huge disadvantage when you were in trouble. I had no one to turn to. I just made my usual way into town.
*****
We made it into town the first ten minutes of walking. However, I had no idea where any neighborhoods nor police stations were. We wandered the town for about 30 more minutes and I started to get exhausted. Neighborhoods seemed far away and I had no idea where to go.
I hastily walked through town with my head hanging low and Annabella's hand enveloped tightly in mine.
"Cassandra, I'm hungry," Annabella muttered pulling at the bag of food on my back.
"Ok, take whatever you want," I sighed patting her head and giving her two of her favorite granola bars: chocolate chip.
After eating, Annabella whined that she was tired and wanted to go home. With a defeated sigh, I kneeled slowly beside her.
"We can't go home, he'll hurt us, Annabella," I warned picking her up. "Just go to sleep," I indulged, kissing her head.
"Love you, Cassandra."
"Love you too, Blue Bell," I say.
*********
At about 9 o clock, I was ready to lay down and cry. But, I wasn't about to go back home and face Robert. That's the last thing that I would want to do. I shivered at the thought of being severely punished. He would probably beat me to death and tell my mom it was a suicide.
I continued to walk until
I could find a place to sit down and rest. I turned down a dead in road with a few street lights.
I guess this would have to do.
I threw the bags I was hauling around on the ground and laid Annabella down next to me. I gently propped her head on my leg. She shifted lightly in her sleep and let out a quiet whimper. "Shhh, it's okay," I cooed, threading my fingers in her wild, curly hair the way she loved.
She slept so peacefully that it made me tired. I thought about calling my mom but she probably would be too brainwashed to even care.
I looked around and saw how alone I was. I was afraid and lonely. We laid right next to the woods where anything could happen. I cried, burying my face in my hands. This is how we will be for the rest of our lives. Moving place to place because there's no where to run to. Annabella would have a hard life all because of me.
Should I just go back?
"I'm sorry, Blue Bell, you deserve so much more," I sighed crying harder in to the night. My whimpers echoed as I failed to stifle my sobs. Suddenly, there was another voice that echoed along with my cries.
