After school, I started my usual walk to Annabella's school. The walk was short but still rather cold, and lonely. The October weather was getting to me causing my nose to burn and my skin to form goosebumps.

"Hey, Cassandra," Annabella said running towards me from the school steps. She always loved school. The thought of her being so happy at school was my only reason I smiled during my day at school. Or at all.
"Hi, Blue Bell. How was school?" I asked swooping her off of her feet.
"Great, we made ice cream. It was so cool! But I dropped mine. Can we go get more," she asked sweetly.
"Fine. But we have to be quick."
Instead of taking our usual route to the house, we took a detour so we can go to the store. When I was walking around the store, I over heard a conversation of a woman on the phone.
"It's 5:50, why aren't you here to pick me up from this store. You were supposed to be here 20 minutes ago."
My heart stopped. Robert wanted me home today at 6. I'll never make it home in time. Fear coursed through my veins instantly. I grabbed the ice cream from the shelf and pulled the Annabella quickly to the register.
The cashier rung up the ice cream leisurely. I tapped my foot nervously caressing Annabella's hand with my thumb. I gave the woman the money and yelled thank you before dashing out the store with Annabella.
"Where have you been," Robert says pulling me into the house by the hair when I opened the door. He must have been waiting by the door. I knew this would happen. Annabella gasped and gripped my hand tighter.
"Daddy! Stop it!"
"Annabella, go into the room and eat your ice cream," I tell her while Robert still had a tight, firm grip on my hair. "everything's ok."
"No." She sniffed clinging to my leg. "Bell, go in the room. I'll be there in a bit." She reluctantly made her way towards the room and closed the door softly.
"Now answer me," he said pulling me with him towards the kitchen.
"We were at the store buying ice cream," I cried trying to be quiet as I possibly could, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to anger you."
"I didn't say you can go to the store! Or anywhere matter of fact!" He yelled swinging me across the room letting go of my hair. He stalks towards me and slap me repetitively. Each time he hits me, he hits me harder and in a different place. My body ached. It was on fire. The last time he hits me, he doesn't slap me, he punches me harshly. I fell to the ground crying and begging him to stop.
I can feel the crimson blood gushing from my nose and my right eye hurt like hell. I knew that I had many bruises on my face. There's nothing I could do. I couldn't maintain consciousness much longer. When he was drunk, he was much more angrier.
"Please... Please stop. I'm sorry." I whimpered in pain. He had never did this to me before. He had never beat me so bad. "Please..."
He ignored my pleads. Instead he pulled me from the ground and grabbed the pill bottle off of the counter top.
"Take this pill now," he says shoving it into my hand. Weak and exhausted, I she the pill from his callused hand and swallow it dry. With a soft smirk of satisfaction, he smoothed my hair and started to kiss my neck.
"Please leave me alone," I winced pushing him away. "I'm tired." My excessive tears and cry for help still didn't make him stop.
"Cassandra," a little voice whispers from the living room. "Are you okay?" Robert pulled away quickly and looked at Annabella in sudden anger.
The room was spinning now. I was tired.
"Cassandra! What wrong," Annabella yelled starting to run towards me. "Come in the room with me!" She pleaded with me.
"Go back into the room, Annabella," Robert shouted.
"But Cassandra is bleeding. Did you hit her?" She whispers starting walking towards me, never taking her eyes off of me. "Bella... Go in the room."
"Little girl, get your ass back into that room before I beat you like I just beat her!"
"Annabella, he won't hit you," I said opening my arms up to her welcoming her into my arms. I just wanted her warmth.
"Oh so I won't, huh," he said with amusement in his voice, stalking towards her. His tall frame was slouched and his eyes were flaming, bloodshot. What the hell did he drink and how much?
"No, leave her alone! You prick!" I yelled pushing him with all of the power I had left.
"Move!" He said turning around and pushing me into the glass dining table.
"Cassandra! Oh no!" Annabella gasped running to me. The table broke under me. Within a matter of seconds of the table breaking, Annabella stood over me. The last thing I was able to see before passing out was Robert grabbing ahold of Annabella's arm and her sorrowful tears.
I'm sorry Bella. I can't stay awake anymore.
********
When I woke up, I laid in the same place. My jacket torn up failing to protect me from getting cut from the broken pieces of glass. Despite the pain, I got up feeling a bit light headed. My face and body in excruciating pain. I was in the kitchen alone. No sound present in the house.
Annabella!
I rushed out of the kitchen on instinct despite how light headed I was. I looked into the two empty rooms and no one was there. I searched in the bathrooms and the closets and no one was there either. I was hesitant to look into my mom's room, but I needed to find Annabella. I peeked in my mom's room but all I saw was Robert sleeping in his bed. I looked around and saw everything to be in perfect place.
I sighed in frustration as I closed the door. I looked at the last door in the hall, which was my room. My heart beat increased in pace and my palms got sweatier. I was hoping that she would be in here. I opened the door and scanned the room slowly. The room was a complete mess. I rushed into the room knowing that she had to be in here.
"Annabella?" I called, "Annabella?" Something under the covers of Annabella's bed, that I had at first assumed was her infinite amount of teddy bears, moved.
"Blue Bell!" I whispered running towards her bed. I threw the covers off of her and saw a peacefully sleeping Annabella.
I gasped at the sight of her. The purple bruises on her arms showed noticeably and she possessed dry blood on her face. I can't believe he beat her to sleep.
"Blue bell, Blue Bell," I whispered patting and shaking her softly not to hurt her.
"Cassandra," she exhaled parting her eyelids a little.
"Are you okay, Bell," I whispered bringing her into a tight hug. She winced and inhaled sharply. I let her go quickly.
"Yes. I'm okay I guess. But you're bleeding and your eye is black." She touches my eye softly and my eye starts to burn, but I try desperately to regain composure.
"It's ok, Annabella. I'm soo sorry I let him hit you."
"My arms hurt a lot."
"Well, Annabella, this is what we're gonna do." She sits up and her eyes widened in curiosity.
"I want you to hurry and get all of your clothes out of the dresser and put them on your bed. Get all of your shoes too."
"Where is we going," she asked.
"We're leaving."
On the side is Annabella. Isn't she sooo cute and I love herr!
