Chapter Ten
Come and Go
"New students have arrived, Miss Amara. Do you want to participate in their orientation?" My attendant asked.
I stopped reading the proposal and looked at her. "Maybe on the end part. Inform me when they are nearly done," I said and went back to reading.
Two years. I was waiting for two years to have this opportunity. I became busy during those years managing the foundation. It's not solely my burden since Ate Hena is still coordinating. It's just I am personally handling it for years now. It's actually good for me because I can divert my attention onto something else. I just... don't want to actually admit that my world revolves around him. As much as possible, I'm trying to tone it down by working.
When my attendant knocked to notify me, I stood up and fixed myself in front of the mirror. I am wearing a v-neck long sleeves mint green-colored above-the-knee skirt. It wasn't flared since it hugs my body perfectly. I grabbed the printed scarf on my bag and tied it on my neck to complete my look.
When I was about to leave, I went back and checked myself again. Something is not right. I look older... I tsked and removed my ponytail and just let my hair down.
"Better."
As I walk around the halls, students kept on smiling at me. Yup, I am that friendly... or not. It depends because students see me as an outgoing and chill kind of person while others, I am intimidating. But I shrugged that thought off my head when we arrived outside the hall. My attendant opened the door for me and I was welcomed by a number of students inside the room.
But my eyes already settled on one person. He was sitting with his legs crossed. I can see from here that he got taller and he became even more handsome! His face matured as well. When my eyes locked onto him, something inside me snapped.
It feels like I don't want to wait anymore. I don't want to hold back anymore. I don't want to keep my emotions at bay anymore. Instead, I wanted him near me... I wanted to be with him.
I blinked when I heard my name being called. "Miss Amara, please," the man in front said and motioned to me the platform.
"Good day, I am Amara Ventilacion, representative of the East Clan. Just like in the past, I've seen students transforming into better people each day as they stay here. I am hoping that you'll continue surpassing my expectations by proving to everyone around here that you are worthy of the chance."
His eyes remained looking at me, it was like if he blinked, I will also disappear from his view. From his laid-back position earlier, he was now sitting with his upper body leaned forward and his arms supporting his head.
I... liked the attention he was giving me. But I don't want to embarrass myself in front of the students and in front of him. Nope, never. That's why I ended my closing remarks by welcoming them to the Royalty School.
As they gave me a round of applause, I took an exit to the door where I entered. My attendant was there, waiting for me.
"Amara." Shocked by the voice beside me, I carelessly took a step back which earned an embarrassing action because he placed his arms behind me, making sure that I won't fall.
This is ridiculous! Such a childish act, Amara!
I pushed him away and fixed my stance. Then I glared at my attendant who looked down upon seeing the scene. It wasn't even intimate!
Blushing, I fake coughed and asked him. "What do you want?" I didn't mean to sound irritated or mad but it seemed like it came out that way. When I was about to correct my tone, he replied.
"I just want to apologize... for thinking bad of you. I should have known better because I was with you throughout the process. That was so rude of me, saying those words to you."
And my plan succeeded. It wasn't actually a plan, I was surprised when he attacked with his words that day. But the reason why I concluded that it will resort to this was... I know him. In just a short period of time that I spent with him, I know that he was just emotional, probably mad at the situation.
Vini is calm and collected in my eyes. I've never seen him lose his control, it was like every fiber of his being was being controlled by him. He never lost his calm facade. He is also reasonable and dependable in all aspects.
And... he always sees the bigger picture of the situation. That's one of his traits that made me admire him more.
I smiled at him and nodded. "It's okay, I understand you... Vini."
"Salamat. I'll go back now. See you around," he said now in a comfortable tone, katulad noon. I watched him leave from my sight. He was even waving at me as he runs back to the door.
I sighed and went back to my office. As soon as I settled myself in a chair, I immediately called Sol. She knew about Vini since I shared her my story with him. Napakunot ang noo ko nang hindi siya sumagot sa akin.
She rarely disregards her phone. No, there was never a time that she wasn't able to answer my call. If she can't talk, she will answer and end it right away then she will send me a message. But for her to ignore my calls, did something happened?
I was about to call her again when Izaac's message popped into my phone. Hindi ko sana papansinin dahil baka nangiinis lang pero something pushed me to open it.
Aunt Dan is leaving and you won't even say goodbye? Such a heartless twin.
That's what he wrote and my hands automatically grabbed my bag and run towards the door. I was half-running in the corridor until I bumped into someone. "Amara..."
When I heard his voice, I clenched his long sleeves and looked at him in the eyes. "Help me, please. I- I need to go home immediately. Please..."
"Okay, okay. Come with me," he said and dragged me to parking. Hindi ko na magawang magulat nang inabot niya sa akin ang helmet. I just put it mindlessly and sat sideways. He didn't speak and just drove away.
"Please, Sol. I hope Izaac is just messing with me. I'll be okay with that. Just not you..."
Hindi ko napansin na nakarating na kami kung hindi lang hinawakan ni Vni ang kamay ko na nakapalibot sa kaniya. I went down from the motorcycle and went beside him to give him the helmet. "Go... Just don't cry again," he said and I nodded before running towards inside.
I stiffened when reality slapped me hard. Sol's bag and stuff are being carried inside a car and she was there... standing quietly and watching her things inside the car.
"N-No... right?" I asked in a small voice as I neared her.
She didn't react and faced me calmly. "Izaac told you? That guy, really."
"He's lying, right? Danae please."
Hindi siya nagsalita at ngumiti lang. "Let me leave, Amara," she said and walked towards me. "Let me breathe... because I can't do that here."
I shook my head. "How can you leave when you are the reason why I agreed to live here in the first place? Ate Hena said that you want our family intact then why are you leaving me behind? Did the word intact change yesterday? Or a minute ago?"
"Don't leave, Sol. Please..."
She smiled at me. "What happened to my confident twin who never uses the word, please?"
"Danae Soriane Liliana!"
When she walked towards me and held my hands, I knew she was serious about this. "Let me leave, Luna. Let me and I'll come back, I promise. Okay? So don't cry for me because I'll be back, hmm?"
