Chapter Twenty-Five

Mysterious Smile

"Yes?" I stood up from the stool and went towards the door para buksan iyon. Nana welcomed my sight and again, she looked awfully displeased with the surrounding.

"Look at you! Look at you! You look like a mess, Mara!" Nana said. I looked at her in confusion bago bumalik sa ginagawa ko.

But then she stopped me by grabbing my hand which made me look at her. "What?"

"Let's fix you up, come," she said and dragged me downstairs.

"Nana!" Angal ko. She's right, I look like a mess and there's no way I would let anyone see me like this. Nope, never.  But Nana never listened to me.

Nakayuko habang naglalakad papunta saan. I don't have any confidence to lift my eyes up because of embarrassment. This is so humiliating!  Then I heard an opening of a door and Nana actually dragged me inside.

We are in a salon! I instantly took a step back, avoiding Nana. But as always, Nana won.

"Stop frowning, will you? You don't want me to cut your hair but you also want to keep it healthy. Paano iyon?" Nana argued.

"But you should have at least asked me!"

Nana crossed her arms. "Will you agree if I tell you?" And she knew that. But it was her fault.

She said that if I don't want something, then I should not do it. Just... what am I suppose to do?

Then the woman behind me laughed.

"Good Afternoon!" I glanced at the door when a man entered and greeted us. It was a typical room-size with three chairs for customers and one couch behind those. This is a small town after all.

"Oh, Yves," bati nung babae sa lalaki. The man smiled boyishly and nodded at the person behind me.

Then he stopped walking upon seeing Nana on the couch. "N-Nana..."

Nana smiled at him and tapped the seat beside her. I don't really care about other people's business but he seemed nice. And he knows Nana. I've always been curious about Nana's life.

"How are you, Yves? Doing well?" Nana asked softly, different from the way she speaks to me!

Yves, the man, nodded and smiled. "I'm trying to be. It's been years. I should somehow be okay now, right?"

They seem very close. Like they knew each other for a long time. And I've never seen Nana look someone that softly.

"Curious?" The woman behind me said when she saw me looking at them from the mirror. "Yves is the owner of this land. Every 25th of the month, pumupunta iyan dito para singilin kami."
