part fifty-two

— jessie's pov
I was getting settled back into my room; I had to miss a day of school. But that wasn't such a bad thing. I put all my clothes back in my drawers. I was still wearing her sweater. It's not like she's dead.
She's just gone for a while.

I sit on my bed and start swiping through the pictures we took in London. I could see dereks outline at my door.

" you ok?" I nod as he comes and sits next to me.

" just looking at some pictures." he leans closer to look at them with me. We swipe together. " lemme show you what I got from there." he takes the phone and continues to swipe. I go in my drawer to bring out a tote bag with some items in it. Derek was paused at a picture. I was behind him. It's was a picture of Emily and me.

He was staring at Emily. A short smile wiped across his face. He still had feelings for her, feelings that were never going to go away.

I let out a little smile too. I walk back to my spot, and I could see his finger swipe again.

" so, I got this snow globe-" his phone dings, and I already knew we had a case. he looks at me. " it's ok."

" you wanna come with?" I smile and nod.

— derek's pov
she still didn't know, Alex had left, and kate had joined the team. I just couldn't tell here. I grab my keys and wait for Jessie to come downstairs. She enters the car, and we make our way to the bau.

we enter the elevator and wait for it to reach our floor.
— jessie's pov
I walk into the bau. First, I make my way towards Garcia's office. She was typing away on her computers.

" whatchu working on?" Her typing comes to a sudden halt as she slowly turns around. She gets up, giving me a huge hug, shaking me.

" you don't understand how boring everything has been!" I laugh, and we make our way to the center of the room where Reid, JJ, and Alex should be.

Spencer and JJ hug me almost immediately.
" where's Alex, and who is this?" It was a middle-aged lady with short Brunette hair. I try to sound as proper as ever.

Everybody looks at Derek, which draws my attention to him too. Garcia looks at Derek; " you didn't tell her?"

" Tell her what?" I look at Alex's desk; it was now filled with the lady's stuff. She walks up to me.

" hi! My name is Kate, I'm sorry, but Alex resigned. I'm the new agent. I've heard so much about you!" she puts her hand out. I shake it with a smile. But I really wanted her to shut up.

" my name is Jessie; nice to meet you." I walked to the round table room and waited for everyone to get there. It took like five minutes, but everyone got there. They were probably talking about me. I just could believe that no one told me. Not even Alex.

I could hear Garcia explaining the case, but it was like everything was muffled. I was thinking about Alex, about Emily.

" Kate and Jessie, I want you to find out more about the victimology with Garcia." hotch says; everybody disperses. Except for hotch, Garcia, and Kate.

" Welcome back!" he says,

" it's good to be back, sir!"

" I would like you to get aquatinted with Kate. you know your one of our best agents!"

" I'm not an agent. I'm a 15-year-old girl." I say jokingly. he lets out a small smile and leaves the room. I didn't even review the case. Garcia and Kate were talking. Since Kate stayed, they probably had a case in Virginia or Maryland.

I open the case file and skim through it.
Three African American males were found bludgeoned to death in their cars.

I looked at the crime scene photos. Nothing terrible; they already had a pair of prints, so they should be caught soon with the bau's help.

Garcia never really needs help with victimology. It's mostly a computer job. Hotch just wanted me to get acquainted with her. We both knew that.

Garcia was going through financial records at the round table. I look back at the crime scene photos. It always tells a story.

" my daughter could never do that," Kate says; I never asked. But ok. I smile and go back to examining. " she's into boy bands and scrunchies." I scrunch my face in disgust. I don't like girls like that.

" yea, I'm not into stuff like that," I say, looking back at the pictures. She took that as a hint to focus on the case. They were definitely signs of a struggle. Their knuckles were bruised. It seemed like the unsub waited for them in the back seat.

" Penelope, where the cars electrical or hackable?" Penelope does some typing on her computer.

" yea, all the victims' cars could be hacked." I look at her, and she leaves to go make a call to the team.

" How was London?" Kate ask.

" How did you-"

" Derek told me." She is definitely on the talkative side.

" it's was good, but she got called on a u.c case. so I might not hear from her in a while." I smile. But I was really panicking. The last time she went undercover, she fell in love with a guy who tried to kill her later on. I didn't want to lose her again.

"you're so strong." she pats my shoulder. She's trying too hard to make friends, to feel included. Just then, my phone rings. Saved by the bell. I pull it out. It was Alex.

" excuse me; I have to take this." I walk away into the old storage room and swipe left to answer the call.

" I'm so sorry! I didn't know how to tell you." she started quickly, knowing that I wanted to be the person to speak first.

" Why did you leave?" that's what I want to know.

"I need to be with my husband, I could lose him too, and he couldn't lose me. I've seen this job take so much away for you guys. I don't want it to take anything away from me." she was right. I understand; this job took my mom away from me for seven months, and I'm still trying to get her back.

" I'm going to miss you. a lot. I actually liked you." I say those words with love. " I didn't even give you a goodbye hug."

" Hey, this isn't goodbye. It's only like a seven-hour drive," she says sarcastically, which makes me laugh.

" yea, only."

" yea, I heard this new restaurant opened up that only sells vegan tacos." I laugh at her.

My phone pings and I check it; it was James.
Wanna go to tortellini's for lunch?

I didn't want to let Penelope down. I look at her. she was confused.
Sorry, I'm with family.

I send it and go back to Penelope. " who was that?"

" oh, Clara... she wanted to hang out." she nods, and we make our way to the round-table room. " but that vegan place sounds great." Kate looks confused. Don't invite her, don't invite her.

" Kate, we're going for lunch. Wanna come?" she looks at me, and I force a smile.

" yes, of course!" she closes the file, and we all make our way into the elevator.

we exit the car and make our way towards the restaurant. " I heard about Emily's new boy toy," Penelope says. I look at her. What was she talking about?

" what boy?"

" Mike," She sees the confusion wipe across my face. " you didn't know." I shake my head. " sorry, I thought since you went for a visit, you would find out."

" Nope, this is news to me too." I don't even question how Penelope knew. But, we would she keep that a secret from me.
