Monday, again.
I barely got out of the bed, and we almost got late to the school.
But I managed to concentrate thought those boring lessons I had all day, till lunch.
Then I finally head to cafeteria for lunch. I sit at our usual table, expecting to see all of them already there, but to my surprise, there's only Mateo there.
I look around, and immediately spot Neil and Laina walking in, with Neils arm around her shoulders.
They probably really like that pose.
-"Guys, we are in school. What do you think you're doing?" I ask, my eyebrows knitting together, staring at them.
-"It's not like we are fucking in the middle of the cafeteria, so relax, Sim" Neil says, and Laina smashes his arm.
Neil chuckles, but soon stops, now staring at Mateo, with furrowed brows.
-"Hay man, what's wrong?" Neil asks, sitting in front of him, with Laina soon taking the seat besides Neil.
I sit besides Mateo, and turn to him, placing my head in my hand.
-"Yeah, what's wrong?" I ask, more suspiciously, when Mateo doesn't answer Neil.
-"Nothings wrong. Why would you think something's wrong?"
-"You act weirdly." I say back.
-"Nothing. Is. Wrong." Mateo says, and drops his head onto the table. So somethings is definitely wrong. I sigh.
But the bell rang, so we just split up.
I constantly drop out of the topic the teachers were talking about, thinking about what should I do.
What if Regina doesn't wake up?
What if they accidentally find out about my powers?
Or maybe, how my parents died?
When is gonna Arch get home?
Who is this so tiring?
When the bell finally rings, signaling the school end, I'm slowly walking outside. And not watching, I accidentally run into a girl.
-"I'm sorry, I wasn't watching." I say, trying to get away faster.
-"It's fine." I hear a voice behind me, but I don't even turn around as I walk to Neil's car, when I don't see Mateo's car anywhere.
Neil soon appears out of nowhere and walks to the car, with soon Laina joining us.
I stand up from leaning against the car and let Laina sit in the front, while I sit in the back.
I lean forward, and stop the from kissing, making them both look at me.
-"Take me to Mateo's apartment, I'm gonna spend the night there." I say to them.
Laina smiles a knowing smile at me, and grins at Neil, who does the same.
-"Drive." I order.
Neil chuckles but does as I said, driving out of the schools parking lot, stopping in front of Mateo's apartment. I get out and slamming the door almost fly upstairs to his apartment.
I knock on the door, and when he doesn't answer I start knocking much louder, soon stopping because the doors open.
And there stand really sleepy Mateo, looking like I just ELEPHANT him off of the bed.
I smile an innocent smile, at him, while he just looks frustrated.
-"Can I stay the night here?" I ask, and he furrows his brows.
-"You didn't run away from your home, did you?" He asks back.
-"Nope." I say way too enthusiastically.
He opens the door wider and lets me in, locking the door behind him. I walk to the living room and drop on the couch, closing my eyes.
-"I have a gift for you." Mateo finally says, removing my legs from the couch and sitting in that spot, then bringing them into his lap.
-"I woke you up, and you have a gift for me?" I can't help my skeptical voice.
-"That's the point of the gift." He mutters, and pulls out something from his pocket, ELEPHANT it in the air.
-"It's a... key?" I ask, ELEPHANT myself on my elbow, leaning closer.
He drops the key in my hand.
-"It's my apartment key. If you lose it, you won't get it again, so don't. And also. don't be loud." He gots up from his seat and walks to his bedroom, leaving me there, still sitting dumbfounded.
Wait, what?
After a moment he walks back to me and grows a pillow and a blanket, what I soon catch.
-"You know how to make your bed, so goodnight." He says and walks back in his bedroom, while I still try to understand what just happened.
Soon I just stop wondering and try to drift to sleep, hoping to avoid dreams.
I suddenly sit up from my spot in the couch, almost hitting heads with Mateo.
-"What are you doing here?" I ask, trying to calm down my breathing.
-"You were screaming, and I'm a light sleeper, so you woke me up." He said, yawing.
-"How late is it?" I ask.
-"Five am."
-"I'm sorry." I feel suddenly need to apologize, feeling guilty about waking him up.
-"It's alright." He mumbles.
For a moment we sit in silence, while he stares at me, but I just try to drift off again, failing miserably.
After some starlings design, Mateo finally speaks up. -"Would it help you if you had someone besides you?"
-"What?" I frown and open one eye to look up at him.
-"You heard me."
I rolled my eyes.
-"I did heard, but what do you mean? If it means I get to sleep in one bed with you, I'm in." I say, not even faking my excitement.
-"That's basically what I said." He says, and I furrow my brow, while he stands up with me soon mirroring his actions.
He grabbed my pillow and blanket, walking over to his room, while I soon trailed behind.
-"You did not said that. You asked only if it help if I had someone besides me, and it's not the same, y'know." I said.
He suddenly throws my pillow on the bed and just fall in without looking at me, but still letting out a relieved sigh.
I fell in the bed besides him, turning to stare at his beautiful face, examine everything before something could ruin our friendship.
If only that'd be a friendship.
-"Mat, what are we?" I ask, clearly confused but interested.
-"Let me sleep."
