I looked towards the door before realizing it was just a delivery.
"It's just the rest of Leila's furniture, the email just came through." I said seeing the fear in her eyes. I heard my husband come downstairs and open the door.
"Fuck." She said before checking on the boys.
"Relax." I said leaning on to the kitchen island. I didn't know what to tell her. I would never want to make her feel bad for wanting to be with him but I felt bad for Maiya.
"I don't know what to do E. I tried to stop what ever we have because I though that's what needed to happen." She said now fidgeting with her hands.
"He talked a really god game and he even came to the house E and sat outside for the whole night. I wanted to hear what he had to say and I knew that it wouldn't change anything..." she stopped and began to break down. I hadn't seen her this distraught since she didn't get in to her sorority the first time.
"Erin it's ok to let it out. There is a lot happening." I said not knowing what else to say.
"I'm so stupid. This is what I get." She said as Sloane came down stairs.
"He is on his way." He said stopping at the threshold of the kitchen. He was nervous to make is way into the kitchen because I waved him over to me.
"Of course you know." She said going back in to her tearful sob.
"I um... yeah I know." He said before coming up behind me and wrapping his arm stone my shoulders.
"Did he tell you?" She asked him. My head dropped a bit.
"It wasn't the most well kept secret. I didn't know that it was this heavy though." He said being a little too blunt.
"Well what did he say?" She asked.
"Erin I think you should talk to him. E and I are already too involved." He said trying to stop the conversation.
"Just tell me." She spat at him.
"It's none of my business. Y'all are grown so y'all can do what y'all want..." Sloane said firmly.
"What? Now you want to stay in your lane?" Erin asked.
"Come on Erin, ease up." I stepped in.
"I have a lot of shit to worry about and my brother's extra activities isn't one."
"Extra activities? Oh my god I am a home wrecker."
"That's not what I meant." He tried to fix it.
"That's not what he said Erin. It's complicated for everyone."
"This shit is a mess." She said looking over to see the boys were sill asleep.
"Im going to help Sloane take the boys upstairs." I looked at the time realizing that Nate was going to be pulling up any minute. As we walked to the living room and began to pick the boys up. I help him get Khalil and Nasir into his arms while I carried Amir.
"E don't get involved in that shit. As soon as you pick a side you have to stay there." He said just above a whisper as we walked up the stairs. It took us a little time to get up stairs, lay them down, and turn on the monitors in the boys rooms.
"We have to stay out of the E. Let them focus on them and what ever that shit is." Sloane said. I looked up at him and took a breath as I shut Amir's door.
"Baby she is my sister." I said.
"Nate is my brother. E let that shit go. They are two grown ass people with some grown ass problems." He said firmly. He liked me up and down before looking over the banister.
"Sloane..."
"Come on, we have our family, three little babies and Leila who grows by the day. She has been through a lot and if you weren't constantly in her life the transition may have been worse. Amir just got here. Can we focus on that?" He pleaded. I wanted to know why he was so adamant about stepping back. Something told me that their had to be an underlying reason but I pushed it to the back of my mind.
"You are right." I said leaning in for a kiss. We shouldn't be involved and he was correct. My sister was grown and as much as I didn't want her to be in this pain she brought it on herself.
"I am right sometimes you know." He kissed me again.
"We have a house full of kids and are about to have company so please don't start." He said knowing I liked to play games.
"Start what?" I asked.
"E..." He said refusing to look me in the eye.
"Ok." I threw my hands up as we started to return to the common areas of the house.
"You play to much." I laughed at his comment.
"Baby, you may be right but how are we going to stay out of it if it's happening under our roof?" I asked before noticing the car pull up to the gate.
"Hell, if they love each other they can move in together for all I care. Baby they aren't our problem." He said as I stopped in my tracks. I stepped closer to the control panel on the wall next to the door.
"Erin! Did you call Erica?" I yelled into the kitchen as I watched the cameras.
"No." I heard her say. As soon as I yelled I realized that I could have woke the boys up.
"Why is she here? Wait... who is that with her?" I asked watching Erica pull out her phone to tell me she was out side instead of using the key pad we paid so much money for.
"That's your mother E." Sloane said looking at the screen as my phone rang. My heart stopped.
"I haven't seen her since I told her ass to stay away from or wedding." I continued to look at the screen.
"Daddy." I turned to see Khalil standing at the top of the stairs with a book in his hand. Nasir wasn't too far be hind and it was clear that Khalil went to wake his brother up.
"Yes baby boy."
"You didn't read our book." He said letting us know that we skipped a step in the routine.
"I'm going to go out them back to bed. What do you want to do?" He asked me before telling the bouts to go to Khalil's room.
"They have got to go. Anytime anytime is going well they find something wrong. I'm happy just let be be happy." I stopped talking after noticing that the boys were listening.
"I'll let you do what you feel is right." He said.
"You want daddy to read to you?" I asked the boys who waited patiently.
"Mmhm." Nasir said.
"I got it." He kissed my lips.
"Tell mommy good night boys." Sloane said as he walked up stairs. I could already tell that he wanted no parts of whatever was going to happen next. Knowing him he probably would have stepped away anyway.
"Yes." I said pushing the button to speak.
"E we want to talk." I laughed.
"Yo every year you have a period where try to fuck up what I have going on. You find a way to criticize everything and I don't need that in my home right now." I said calmly. I took some slow breaths as I realized firm in my comments.
"I have ma with me." She said.
"I haven't seen or talked to her in years. Are either of you sick or in need of any? Is Bria ok?" I said knowing that my dad was fine. I wanted to go straight to the point because if there was anything wrong that's what we needed to start.
"Are you serious? We came all the way over to have a conversation with you that's that's only thing you have to say?" My blood began to boil.
"Get off of my property Erica." I started to turn the panel off.
"I haven't even seen my grand kids Emerald! I had to find out about Amir from Facebook! I didn't even know that Leila was..."
"Please go a head on an get off my property. Y'all stay safe and enjoy your night."
