Kohl opened his eyes, but he didn't see so well, his vision was still very blurry. God, his whole body hurt, as it did after a good battle, but then worse. Much worse. The taste in his mouth was awful, he would mostly describe it as dead mice if he had to explain it to someone and his tongue was dry. His throat was sore too.
"Hmm...ugh," he muttered.
A shade appeared, hovering over him.
"He's waking up," the shade said with a voice so warm.
He knew that voice. He knew that scent too. "A-Arya?"
"Yes. I'm here."
He felt something soft against his forehead. "His fever is down as well."
That wasn't Arya's voice. It was one that he had never heard before. Kohl tried to look at the other shade that appeared but he almost couldn't hold his eyes open.
"Go to sleep for now," a lady's voice said.
Kohl closed his eyes again and fell asleep.
"For as long as he can sleep, let him sleep," Mira said.
Arya and Kohl were living in her house for four days already.
Sometimes other people came, in search of herbs or they wanted the help of Mira "the witch". They came for her help but further than that, she was an outcast. Nobody wanted to befriend a witch.
"Are you never lonely?" Arya asked while her and Mira were busy making lunch.
Mira stirred a big spoon in a big pot while Arya watched how the soup was made. "Maybe sometimes...a little," Mira answered and then looked at Arya. "But I have you with me now, to entertain me," she said, smiling. "And sometimes I go to the bigger city, to visit my...brother. Actually, I was planning on going there as soon as possible. Maybe I'll go when your husband is completely out of danger and fully awake. And you two can stay here as long as I'm gone so that he can get back to his full strength. That's why you need to watch carefully what I am doing here, so you can prepare food yourself," Mira explained.
The omega had never prepared food in her life before, but these last few days, Mira had made her chop vegetables and herbs and taught her things she liked to learn.
"Thank you for everything," Arya said.
"It's ok. I like helping other people," Mira said. She poured some soup into a bowl and gave it to Arya to taste.
Arya blew a few times and took a spoon full.
"And?"
"It's very nice," Arya said after she felt the hot soup slide down her throat.
"It's your first homemade meal. With a little help from me, of course," Mira said, winking.

Mira had left to visit a sick child in town after the child's father had come knocking on the door an hour ago. He hysterically begged for her help.
Arya currently was outside, chopping some wood. She thought it would be ok to leave Kohl alone for 15 minutes and besides that, she was only a couple of meters away from the house.
Chopping the wood was hard work but she had to do it. It was one of the things that Mira had taught her. Who would have ever thought she would become a person who had to chop wood? She didn't mind, though. It was very welcome to have something to do in the house.
While she carried a couple of wooden logs inside, she saw Kohl sitting up and fully awake.
"Kohl, you're awake! Finally," Arya dropped the wood to the floor and walked over to her husband.
"Arya..." Kohl replied. He sounded more alive than he had done before. These last few days he had only mumbled. "How long was I out?" he asked.
"A couple of days. How do you feel?"
"I feel ok." Kohl looked at the surroundings but didn't ask where he was.
"Do you remember what happened?" Arya asked.
"Yes." Kohl had a cold stare. "I remember it all."
"You must feel so angry and sad about Pascal's betrayal. I'm sorry about that," Arya said and she took the cup that was filled with water from the bedside table to place it against Kohl's mouth. "Here drink."
Kohl took a sip. Angry? Definitely. Sad? No, he wasn't sad. He didn't know sadness in his life. Not since... "Not as sad as you probably feel," Kohl said with sarcasm.
"What do you mean by that?"
"I heard what he told you," the alpha snorted. "And besides that, I saw your reaction too."
Arya's stomach turned when she thought back to their last day in the castle. "Which reaction?"
"When I was puking my guts out, you were more disturbed by the fact that Pascal wasn't the person you thought he was than being concerned for your dying husband," Kohl said matter of factly.
"I...I just thought he was different and--" Arya said to defend herself.
"He isn't kind!" Kohl hissed.
"I guess he isn't so different from you, then," Arya said coldly. It seems that Kohl was fully back to his old self again.
Kohl looked angry. He spoke again, his voice still croaky from all the throwing up and being ill:
"You are mine, Arya. As your alpha, it's my duty to protect you from harm. But, if you ever betray me in any way... I will personally bite your throat off. Do you hear me? I will kill you before I will let you be someone else's."
The alpha was dead serious. Oh, how Arya couldn't believe the man! He was awake for 5 minutes and they already got into a fight. And now, he'd even threatened to kill her?
"What the hell are you talking about? You really are crazy!" Arya said and she slammed the cup of water on the bedside table and walked out of the door. Mira had actually already returned home and had heard it all from the other side of the door. Arya saw her standing in front of the door. "Oh! I'm sorry Mira, I'll go for a little walk, I need air. I'll be right back."
Mira saw Arya's eyes glazing with tears and nodded at the younger. She then stepped inside and looked at her male patient, who was awake for the first time in four days.
