It was a new morning again.
"Be careful," Mira told Kohl. Actually, it was more an order, the way her voice was stern and deep.
In the morning they had talked about Kohl's plans to take over Geara. Kohl informed that he shall attack when the first national Gearian day would come. That day was called mating day. It was a day in Geara for all couples that were not mated yet. They would perform the ritual of marking.
Mira hugged him, making Kohl feel a little awkward. He just stood there with his arms hanging down.
She let go with a smirk and turned to Arya.
"I will miss you," Arya said when she hugged her tight.
"We will see each other again, I'm sure of that. Maybe even sooner than we think," Mira said. She'll miss both of them.
"I hope," Arya replied.
This afternoon, she and Kohl would ride to Oprela, a journey that would take about a day and a half by horse.
~
Arya laid her head down upon one of Kohl's shoulders as her eyes became heavier by the minute. The movements of the horse and Kohl's smell made her tired.
"Kohl?"
"Yes?"
"I'm almost falling asleep."
"Ok, I will find us a hiding place to spend the night."
By dumb luck, Kohl found an abandoned cottage a couple of minutes later. They could rest and spend the night there since it was almost getting dark.
~
"I tied him up under a couple of leafy trees," Kohl said, talking about the horse when he walked inside again.
It had begun to rain and thunder outside, making the temperature drop lower. They had already eaten and now her belly was filled with dinner, Arya began to grow tired again and shivered. The little fire that Kohl had started provided a bit of warmth but not enough.
"Are you cold?" the alpha asked.
Arya nodded. "Yeah, a little."
Kohl took off his vest and placed it around Arya's shoulders. "Here, I don't need it."
"Oh...thank you," Arya said, gratefully. "I hope the weather will be better tomorrow than it is now."
"As do I."
"Shall we go to sleep?"
In the corner of the cottage laid some hay. Kohl stood up and made a little fluffy hill of it while Arya watched. The alpha's arm muscles flexed with every movement and Arya saw all of it...
"We can sleep here," Kohl said when he turned around. "I'll leave the fire burning, so you won't get cold."
Arya quickly looked in another direction when she noticed she was staring at Kohl with an open mouth. "Oh. Yeah, thanks...I'm very tired," she quickly said.
Half an hour later, Arya slept like a baby while Kohl was still awake. He laid on his back with his arms resting under his head, looking to the side, at Arya. The woman looked so pure while he observed all the features of her face. There was a teeny-tiny scar on one of her cheeks. He had never seen that before. Neither did he ever see the little dent in Arya's septum. Or the thick long black lashes that rested on her soft blushing cheeks.
Kohl saw her eyes moving underneath the thin eyelids. They shifted from left to right and back while the pink lips suddenly curled upwards, just a little bit. Arya smiled in her sleep.
