Coming back to university after what happened last night felt like a bigger burden than usually, and stress was tying up her stomach to the point it ached. During all of her hurried walk along the corridors, Dove kept her head low, paying attention not to jostle anyone. She absolutely did not need more enemies than she already had, especially since she knew Jun and his group would retaliate. There was no way he would let her go on that, and she prepared herself for another round of beating today. She clenched her fists, and headed to her next class with apprehension. When she entered the room, the first thing she checked was Jun's place: it was empty. Then, she turned to see if her habitual seat, in the front and right beside the window, wasn't taken. Some anxiety got relieved when she saw it wasn't, and she went to take place, putting her backpack on her lap. She slightly turned to glance at Seon, the brown-haired boy sitting behind her, showing him a little smile. He was her one and only friend since she entered this school, and was ordinarily the most cheerful person she ever knew, but not today. Today, her smile got answered with a scowl, and he swung his head to the other side to avoid looking at her. She flinched; did yesterday's event have been told to the entire university? If it did, then she was screwed up way more than she originally thought. She leaned over the back of her chair to talk to him, worried:
– What's wrong? She asked, vainly. Hey? Hey, Seon, what's the problem?
He kept on ignoring her until she reached a hand to his arm, and that sole move made him jump back. Yet, his gesture was not the thing that pained her the most: it was the expression of pure terror his eyes had when looking at her. She felt a sting right into her heart as she pulled away, eyes widened.
– D-don't touch me, he said, almost in a cry. I didn't know you were that kind of girl, Daesyn!
– But what the hell are you talking about?
– Y-you're nothing better than all these gang scums!
He knew. And from the glares she received, everyone else in her class did. Something shattered inside of her; maybe that was her dreams of living a normal, rightful life that fell into pieces? Or maybe it was the entire bubble she protected herself into since that night, seventeen years ago? She didn't know, but she felt broken. Too fractured to even hope of gluing everything back together.
– I-I don't consider you my friend anymore, Dove. Don't sit close to me again.
It was not like she had any intentions of sitting anywhere in that classroom again, at this moment. With her throat tightened by tears, she seized her backpack and woke up, exiting the room in a rush, under the dark stares of every other students there. Right now, she wanted to disappear, may it be from that place or from the whole surface of the world. She just wanted to vanish. While the bell was ringing and everyone else was entering their classes, she ran across the corridors, trying her best to remain calm, to remain silent, at least there. But no matter her efforts, a squeal escaped her mouth when abruptly, a face she knew too well appeared out of nowhere: Jun. He was covered in bruises, and accompanied by three men older than them. At the bat he was holding, she instantly knew that he was there to take revenge, and that he would not spare her life, this time. Her heart missed a beat, as her survival instincts suddenly kicked in. She did not think of it twice, swinging around and running away.
– Let's get that bitch!
The blue-haired man's shout resonated into her head like bangs onto a wall, so loud she almost slipped in her race. She reached the exit door, and let out a scream when she realized it was blocked. There was no escape there. She couldn't think straight as panic was flowing into her veins, and desperately headed to the women's restroom, storming in one of the toilets and locking behind her. She squeezed herself against the wall, observing the frail door in front of her with dread; it would not hold them back for so long, and there, she was totally trapped. She tried to calm herself, fear making it hard to breath. She had to think of something quickly, because there had to be a solution. No, she couldn't end up like that. And no, she couldn't defend herself. She wouldn't shatter her life more than it already was. She wouldn't end up in jail for protecting herself.
All of a sudden, she remembered of what put her into all of this trouble, and most importantly, of what the man told her. Her whole body shaking, she grabbed her cellphone from her jeans' pockets along the card he gave her, and began to dial his number, before holding it to her ear. When she heard his deep voice through the device, relief immediately came to her mind.
– M'hello?
– H-hey, Venom, this is... I-I know this is sudden but-...
– Dove? Is that you?
– Y-yes that's me, I... I need-...
Footsteps made themselves heard, then doors slamming, until a blast hit the one behind which she hid, tearing away a squeal from her. No, it would not even hold more than a few minutes.
– What was that? Where are you?
– I'm in the girls' restroom, I-I'm trapped! Jun is gonna kill me! I need your help!...
Another bang landed on it, this time so strong the bat used got stuck in it, leaving a hole when one of the guys ultimately managed to get it out, in a laugh. She stood there, pressed against the white bricks' wall, her heart beating so hard into her chest she could swear her ribs could break from it. If that man wouldn't come to save her, nobody else would.
– V-Venom, I-...
This time, the hit broke the lock: the door opened wide.
