– I told you to move the fuck away from her.
Sphinx's deep, angry growl didn't make Seon move by an inch, but worried Dove; if Seon didn't back off, that could easily escalate into a fight. She could understand the mint-haired man's reaction towards the other, but the last thing she wanted was to get expelled from class along them. She caught his hand to hold him back, forcing him to face her. He was furious, and she knew the expression on his face too well. She showed him a smile in an attempt to calm him.
– It's okay Sphinx, she softly said, it's fine.
– Do you want him to sit next to you?
– Wh-what?
His sudden question made her hesitate, even more when he tightened his grip around her fingers.
– Do you want him to sit next to him, or not?
She didn't know how to answer, and she doubted that she even could answer; even if a slight part of herself wanted to forgive Seon, the other didn't want to, and now despised him. Sphinx could feel her uneasiness, and it irritated him even more that he understood it as her fearing the brown-haired guy. He turned around to scowl at him, while she didn't let go of his hand.
– Can't you see you're making her nervous? He growled to Seon.
– What makes you say it's me making her nervous, and not you? Maybe it's you that should move the fuck away from her.
– What did you say?
The mint-haired man took a step forward, getting menacingly close to the other and this time ignoring her tugging at his arm.
– You heard me well, you asshole, I said you should move away from Dove.
– I'm going absolutely nowhere.
– Then go on, ask her who she wants to stay with, if you're so sure.
Seon observed her, and she could sense the tension increasing dangerously as Sphinx swung around too. However, as she was about to reply, a violent punch landed in his jaw and shoved him into her. They both fell onto the window in a shout, and she closed her eyes at the apprehension of being slammed by his body, but no pain came, except for her shoulder bumping into the glass. When she reopened her eyes, her cheeks turned to bright red: he had avoided to crash onto her by keeping his balance onto the window, his hands placed by each side of her head, his face close to hers, too close. As he was leaning above her, his bangs were brushing on her forehead, and they could feel each other's breath on their skin. She looked away, embarrassed, but he couldn't imitate her, focused on her features, open-mouthed and blushing. After an instant, he finally went back to his senses, but still didn't move, rather whispering to her:
– Are you okay?
– Y-yes I am... Y-you?
– Yeah.
He got away from her and turned around, persuaded that this time, he would kill that guy. Seon, on the other hand, had seen the blush on Dove's face, and it annoyed him. He aimed another hit at Sphinx, but he blocked it easily with his forearm. He was about to retaliate, but the young woman grabbed his arm and pulled him back, rather taking his place, to the surprise of the two men. She put on Seon a dark look, frowning.
– I could've forgiven you for what you said to me, but this... This is beyond limits.
And in a blink, it was her fist that hit the brown-haired boy right in the face, so brutally he stumbled back, under the surprised screams of the students around. That one girl who had never stood for herself found the bravery to defend her friend, and although it astonished everyone else, it delighted her. Seon, thunderstruck and nose bleeding, stayed on the ground, staring at her with a stupefied expression. She shook her knuckle for the pain of having punched him, before eyeing Sphinx, concerned.
– Is your jaw alright?
– M'yeah, this shithead's punch is nothing. I've seen worse. What about your hand?
Before she could reply, he took her hand, and chuckled at the sight of blood on it.
– Nice move, for a beginner. Come, I'll take you to the nurse.
– It's okay, I'm fine.
– That'll leave a bruise if you don't get it treated. Get out first, I'll talk to the teacher.
She ultimately nodded, and grabbed her backpack before heading outside of the classroom. He joined her a minute later, and held her hand yet again, leading her along the hallways. They went down the stairs to the first floor, stopping when they reached the door of the infirmary, and knocking on it. They silently waited in front of it for a moment, but since no one came to open, Sphinx initiated to enter first. She followed him inside, examining her surroundings; it was empty.
– Can't believe they're not even locking it, she uttered.
– M'yeah, I guess they think it's not worth it. Take a seat, I'll take care of your hand.
She acquiesced, sitting on the edge of the bed while he searched through one of the cupboards. He caught a bottle of disinfectant along gauze and band-aids, then crouched down in front of her. He poured some antiseptic lotion on the cloth, and began to clean the blood off of her skin, in careful gestures. Him being so delicate towards her sent another blush to her cheeks, which only intensified when he finished by putting a band-aid on her knuckle, smiling to her.
– Here you go!
– Th-thanks...
He raised up and took place next to her, watching her with his head tilted to the side, his cheeks reddening.
– Hey, Dove, I was wondering... he started.
– Yeah?
– Would you accept to go on a-...
He abruptly stopped when her phone rang, looking away to avoid her seeing the frown that created on his face. Fuck, he thought, right when I finally got brave enough... Dove seized the device from her pocket, and picked up as soon as she saw the name on the screen.
– Venom?
– Hey, Dove. I'm sorry, I'm in a hurry so I'll keep it short.
– Okay? What is it?
– You'll have to come at Ether ENT's building tomorrow at eight pm. This is time for you to get to the real business of Amnesia.
