Dove was maintaining them into place, irritated of their behavior. I'm not staying there and watching these two idiots hit each other like that, she thought, eyebrows frowned. Sensing they tried to get out of her grip, she tightened it; she wouldn't let it pass that easily, this time. She could understand Sphinx's anger towards someone entering his apartment without his permission, and she could also understand Claw's annoyance towards a boy that tried to hit him before, but it wouldn't happen tonight.
– C'm'on, she grumbled, punch each other. I dare you. Give me a reason to slap you two.
– I'm only doin' my job, Dove, sighed Claw. Blaze sent me here to watch over-...
– Fuck off, you liar, shouted Sphinx. If that was the case, she would've given you the keys!
The mint-haired man's remark seemed to confuse the other; did his Lieutenant really have it, or was he just bluffing right now? He couldn't bluff back anyways; the young woman perfectly saw the uneasy expression he had. He sighed, raising his hands up in the air, forcing her to let go. She loosened her grasp off Sphinx's wrist too, but kept an eye on him.
– Alright, gave up the black-haired one. The boss got nothin' to do with that. I just don't trust ya the slightest, Minty.
– We're on the fuckin' same rank, he growled, stop disrespecting me like that.
– We're not. Yer just some bratty kid who happens to be a pureblood.
The tension was palpable, and she could easily see their life flow almost burning up around them; if she wasn't in-between, they would already be fighting. She put her hands onto their chest to push them a bit further away from each other, worried they would sneak a blow when she would be looking away. But what she didn't know was that, upon seeing her touching the other, their jealousy increased over-the-top.
– Okay, she started, let's calm down and-...
– Do ya like him, Dove?
– ...What?
Claw's sudden question surprised her, but what surprised him back was the blush that immediately got onto her cheeks as she glanced at Sphinx. Him too had turned red, and observed her with a mix of apprehension and impatience. Nervous, she inhaled deeply, looking at the other man again. I'm stuck, she told herself, there's no way I can hide it anymore now... I'm fucked.
– Yes I do! she exhaled, nearly in a scream.
She expected him to get even more enraged, but Claw's reaction caught her off-guard; he simply smiled. She turned around to watch Sphinx, now afraid of his, but the bright smile he had comforted her; maybe she could have a bit of a fairy-tale, after all. He was about to talk, but Blaze's Lieutenant took a few steps forwards, stopping next to him.
– Lucky bastard, he whispered, you've got it all.
He did not have the time to reply again, as Claw peeked at Dove, and motioned for her to come with him.
– Gotta talk to ya. Just a minute.
After another look to the younger, she nodded, and followed him outside of the apartment. There, he leaned against the wall, staring at her.
– Ya can say no, but there's something I want.
– What is it?
– You. Just a night.
__________
– Just a night.
– I said no!
Venom's bothered shout woke up some of the rats that were sleeping peacefully on his bed, squeaking from their owner's sudden yell. Him was lying down, trying to push Dusk away by sending his foot into his stomach, vainly; the blue-haired man only leaned closer, resting all his weight onto his leg.
– Please, Ven!
– Fuck off! You're bothering my rats!
No, there was no way he was going to let him sleep in his bed; what Dusk promised to be just a night would turn into just a week if he accepted, and he perfectly knew it. Yet, his friend surprised him; in a sigh, he resigned, getting back on his feet.
– Alright, alright... Goodnight, Ven.
He left the bedroom without any more words or begging, and the blonde frowned; it wasn't likely of him. Usually, he would annoy him until he would get what he wanted, so why not tonight? It was weird. Too weird for him to sleep. In a grumble, he woke up too, rejoining the living room. This asshole, he thought as he saw Dusk heading to the door, shirt back on. He thought I'd just go to sleep like this? Idiot. He caught his arm before he could leave, pulling him further inside, frowning.
– This, you don't do, he growled. Rule three. You never leave without saying goodbye-...
– Because who knows if we'll ever meet again.
Dusk finished his sentence in a nostalgic chuckle, and the look he gave him almost pained the blonde's heart; under his raw appearance and actions, Dusk was just a lost, frightened kid who desired affection more than anything else. A frightened kid with the power of a wild beast. It was Venom's turn to sigh as he dragged him back to the bedroom, made sure no rats were in the way, then threw him onto the bed.
– Just a night. Sleep. If you use emotional blackmail on me ever again, I'm punching you.
– Understood.
The blue-haired man stayed lying down obediently, a smirk on his lips, until Venom came by his side. At the exact moment he took place, Dusk wrapped his arms around him, making the blonde groan again. He was about to complain, but his friend had been quicker.
– Hey, Ven, remember the first time we met?
– ...How could I forget it?
A smile got onto their face at this memory, and finally, Venom hugged him back.
– You were that cool kiddo, continued Dusk, while I was the weak one who needed to be protected all the time by his sister and his only friend.
– I never was cool, and you never were weak. We were just lost.
– Lost and dumb. Now that I'm thinking of it... I should've stopped Phase to fight you.
– M'aw, yeah, I rawed him, that day. Then I rawed you.
– And you told Dawn you didn't hit girls, so she knocked you out herself.
They shared a wholehearted laugh, and dived deeper into these memories of a long-lost time.
