Some minutes later, Dove was way more relaxed than earlier, leaning against the back of the sofa, a glass of nonalcoholic cocktail in a hand, her cellphone in the other, and a smile on her lips.
– Hand me your phone, Dove, happily said Phase, I'll give you my number!
– Wait, me first, exclaimed Blaze. Don't give him your phone, I go first!
– Fuck off, I asked her before you! Right, Dove?
Raising up and approaching her, the young man showed her a wide smile, to which she replied with a chuckle, pointing at Claw; he had been quicker than the two, and was already typing his number into her contact list. Phase pouted, coming to crouch right in front of her to make sure he could get the device before the redhead, who threw a kick in his shoulder.
– Move, you vulture!
– Ow! Hey, you're serious?! If you dirty my suit, you're payin' it back!
– Calm down, giggled Dove, I'll get both of your numbers anyways!
Venom was watching them from afar, in the same time amused and relieved; she looked so brighter than last night, to the point she appeared like a completely different person. She was actually nicer than he imagined, and knowing that she would now have a new start in life, surrounded by people wanting to be her friends and to protect her, made him happy. But an interrogation got into his mind as he observed her giving her phone to Blaze.
– Hey, by the way, he started, will you go back to university?
She lifted her chin up to look at him, hesitating for a second. She didn't really have a choice, she had no way to pay back for her tuition if she stopped, and her part-time job was just enough to pay for her living expenses. She shrugged.
– Yeah, I can't afford to miss, she answered. And I don't wanna waste away nearly a full year of studying.
– M'aw, that's the spirit sis, exclaimed the other girl while giving her back her cellphone. Studies are important! See, I'm the only one who finished her studies in that room, and I'm the most successful there!
The pride with which Blaze told her this made her smile, and she nodded, even if she didn't know what kind of job she was doing. She handed her phone to Phase, who typed on it while turning to Venom.
– Why are you askin' her that, though?
– 'Cause Dove's being bullied.
At the blonde's words, all looks fixated back onto her, and she nervously laughed, waving her hand.
– I-it's nothing, really, it's fine!
– It's not, growled Claw, crossing his arms. How far did these fuckers go?
– Nowhere, they just-...
– They just tried to kill her, yeah.
Venom sighed, and both him and Claw suddenly regretted to be dropouts. If they could, they would have accompanied her a week or two, to show people there that she belonged to Amnesia, but there was no chance any university would accept well-known mercenaries like them in their buildings. However, the pink-haired boy smirked:
– Well, I have an idea. A great idea.
__________
– I appreciate the thought, really, but now that we're there, I'm not sure this idea was that great...
Dove held onto her backpack's strap tighter, nails almost dived into the fabric from stress: everyone was staring. She was not used to this, nor was she used to her new appearance; unleashing her life flow made her hair return to its natural color. It was now platinum blonde, and this color along the branded clothes Blaze gave her made her feel like an entirely different person. She reassured herself by thinking about how being someone new was one of the best ways to start a new life, and this idea would have probably comforted her if it wasn't for the young man walking by her side. No, Phase was absolutely not discreet; he looked like an idol even while wearing a simple – yet expensive – black tracksuit. She could hear people talk about them, and it was making her uncomfortable.
– Wow, who's that guy?
– So handsome! Is he even a student?
– He looks like a model!
– Man, this girl is pretty.
– Do you think she would give me her number?
– Dude, she's too gorgeous for you.
The fuck, she thought, was I that invisible before? I'm from the same class as that guy, and he always ignored me. Seeing how uneasy she was, her friend showed her a smile.
– Relax, he chuckled. I promised you it'd be an awesome idea, didn't I?
– M'yeah, you did...
– So it'll be fine! I swear it'll be funny to see your classmates' faces.
– I sure hope so.
They climbed the stairs and reached the corridor, continuing to walk next to each other and heading to the classroom. She could barely believe how the other students looked at her in a fully different way, but had no time to complain about this, since they reached the room. She gently grabbed Phase's forearm as he was about to keep progressing into the hallway.
– It's that one.
She let go off him to enter it first, but when she saw Jun, sitting at his usual place and surrounded by his friends, her heart leaped into her chest. He spotted her too, and woke up.
– Fuck, I can't believe you bitch actually have the audacity to come back!
He took a step toward her, but abruptly stopped when Phase joined her, putting a hand on her shoulder and giving her a tense smile.
– Are they the ones? He asked her.
– Yeah, that's them. But come on, let's take a seat.
He nodded, and the two of them moved to go sit next to the window, Dove being the closest to it. Jun turned back, trembling; this time, he perfectly knew who Phase was. The young woman gave her friend a smile, putting her notebook on her desk.
– I owe you, she whispered.
– Nah, you don't, darlin', he replied, messing with her hair.
They shared a small laugh, until she realized that, right behind her, was sitting Seon, glaring at her with a disdainful look on his face. She shivered when their eyes met, while he scowled.
– So Jun was right? You're really a whore?
At his words, she felt like another stab in the heart, and glanced at Phase, who turned around in an angered move.
– What did you just say to her?
– You heard me well, you criminal. I said that she's a wh-...
He didn't have the time to finish his insult; someone else grabbed him by the collar and threw him away, unceremoniously.
– That's my seat, shithead.
