–...Did you just say Taro?
– Yes, I did. Why? Do you know her?
Dove shook her head negatively, passing a hand onto her face to stay calm; her heart was racing into her chest, as nervousness highly increased in her mind. Sphinx immediately saw it, and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, protectively.
– This name... This is the very last thing my mother pronounced, before dying. She asked me to avenge someone called Taro. I only reminded it when I was passed out at the hospital, like... Like a flashback. Sphinx and I were about to ask you if you knew anything about this name.
– Do you have any ideas who it is, more precisely? Asked Venom. And how it can be linked to you?
– No, nothing. My mother's name was Byeol, and my father's was Dayan. I don't think I've ever heard this name anywhere else.
– We could maybe ask the Old Crew, proposed Sphinx.
– No, it's too dangerous, replied Phase. They can't know about this, they could denounce us to Atlas.
– Then how do we play it? questioned Dusk. What even is your plan?
– We need to wake her up, declared Blaze. She's the only one who can save Rune. If she gives her some of her life flow, Rune could live.
– Then why don't you just ask Atlas? Or, I don't know, find someone else.
– What are you saying? Of course I did.
They shared an incredulous look, and panic began to flow into Dusk's veins; how come Atlas didn't tell him about it? He was his right-hand man, and yet, he found himself ignoring some matters as serious as this. He could imagine Atlas not telling him he was illegally, and immorally, increasing his power, but not that Blaze came to ask him to wake this woman up. He should have known.
– Fuck, he grumbled, so I'm really just his toy?
The realization hurt him way more than he could have imagined; he had dedicated his entire life to Amnesia, only to find Atlas had been playing with him this entire time? He started to wonder if he wasn't at this current rank just to make him more obedient towards his boss, and Venom noticed the doubts raising into his lover. He put a hand onto his forearm, squeezing on it.
– We'll take care of that, Dusk, and let me tell you, I'll make him pay. But for now on, let's find a way out of this mess, and-...
– Wait, interrupted Sphinx, let me resume this shit. So Rune isn't completely dead, and the only person that could save her is the pureblood kept hostage by Atlas, who's also linked to Dove? But hey, why can't one of us give Rune some of ours?
– She needs one as pure as possible, Sphinx, and a big quantity at that. We're just not powerful enough.
– But what about Atlas? He should loaded, if he did this since a while.
– Atlas said no. The Night Shift isn't his priority. He doesn't care at all.
Blaze sighed, and ended up sitting next to Dove. As a silence formed, nobody could refrain a defeated expression; not only was their boss not the one they thought he was, but they would also be betraying their own gang while going against his orders. It was a tricky situation, and they all knew it. But Dove suddenly woke up; none of them had a choice. She had to fulfill her mother's last wish and avenge the so-called Taro. Blaze had to save Rune, and needed this mysterious pureblood too. Dusk needed to understand why his boss put him aside, while Venom desired to make Atlas pay for everything he did to his beloved. Sphinx promised her he would help her in any ways, and wouldn't hesitate to go against their leader for that. As for Phase, he would never let his family down.
– Listen up, she firmly declared, it's not us who are going to betray Amnesia, it's our leader who did it. Even Strays don't have the right to absorb others' life flow, and Atlas was perfectly aware of it. If the other gangs learn about it, it'll be the entirety of Amnesia that'll be burned down to ashes, and we can't risk it. When Venom first brought me here, Phase told me Amnesia had been a haven for you... And it is for me too. I won't let anyone ruin it all, not even our very own leader.
– But what do you want to do? Interrogated the blonde man. We can't face him head-on.
– Maybe we can't, but the pureblood he's getting his energy from can.
They all nodded at her statement, and she continued.
– But we can't dive in just like that. We have to gather information on that woman first, we can't wake up someone this powerful without knowing if she'll be on our side.
– True, acquiesced Dusk. But let's say she is. What's the following step?
– If she is, then we'll make her revive Rune as soon as she's up and with us.
Blaze's chest felt a little lighter at Dove's phrase, and she showed her a light smile, comforted.
– And then, we'll lead her to the man who deprived her of her own life during years.
– It sounds feasible, agreed Phase, but how are we going to do the latest steps without Atlas knowing about it?
– We'll have to find some really good diversion, or we'll be screwed. But first things first, we have to think of a way to find information on this woman.
She sat back, and another gap interrupted their conversation, as they were focused on seeking a solution.
– Are you sure I can't ask Ether? asked Dove. Isn't she part of the Old Crew?
– She is, but she's too close to Atlas, answered Blaze. And-...
– Do not say anythin' to Ether, Dove.
This sudden voice almost made the little group jump, and their face lifted to the entrance, surprised; Claw had entered, panting, a bleeding cut on his forehead.
– Ether drugged ya when ye were at the hospital. She injected you this.
No one could hide their astonishment, even more when he pulled a small bottle from his jeans' pocket, but it was when she saw what was written on it that Blaze gasped.
– But this product... This product is used to trigger anamnesis.
