– Wait, how come we count that many people in our team, but nobody who's capable of hacking?
– If yer that smart, just do it yerself, ya brat.
Claw's grumble towards his little brother made this one sigh, but eased the atmosphere for the others. The two didn't really look alike, and didn't see to go along either, but nevertheless, it diverted them, slightly calming the tension surrounding them. But still, tomorrow would be the big day, and seriousness quickly came back. They had to be ready, or else, it would be the very end for every of them. Standing in the middle of Blaze's living room, they were observing the plan presented on the large TV screen, and were currently deciding of the best path to take when they would be inside of Amnesia Pharmaceuticals' building. It was made harder by their lack of information considering the exact room where Taro was locked, and also by which state she would be in. Sphinx, forehead rested onto Dove's shoulders, exhaled too.
– Why can't we just dress up as medics and pretend we're moving her on orders of Atlas?
– If that was the hospital, it would work, replied his girlfriend, but in this case, they're too focused on their mission to let us pass like that.
– Then what are we going to do? Questioned Blaze.
– We'll just go hooded, and heavily armed, proposed Venom.
– But won't Atlas know it's us? Asked Dusk.
– Wowie, for this, I have a solution!
Kalei's cheerful exclamation surprised them, and they turned to her with an expectant expression.
– Let's create y'all alibis!
– Which kind? They'd have to be perfect, or they could screw us up even more, remarked Phase.
– Ah, no worries Mister Candyfloss! I know y'all better than I know what's inside my pockets!
– Someone, it doesn't sound reassuring, muttered Dusk. But we're listenin', tell us.
– Easy peasy! Mister Phase Cheol is currently impulse-buying all of the buildings on the Eight Avenue Street, so he'll be talkin' business there. Madam Blaze Clarke is in a meeting with some of her father's associates, followed by Mister Claw White as her bodyguard. Mister Venom Makarov is collecting taxes from some nightclubs along his BFF Mister Dusk Hwa. Madam Daesyn Hyo-Jin and Mister Sphinx Brummell are heading to university to talk to their mathematics' teacher, and finally, Mister Fang White is simply on the loose with his daughter Cassiopeia White. Oh, and for me... I just don't exist!
The girl's smile during the entirety of her speech astonished the others, and they couldn't hide it; she knew absolutely everything about their lives, and it was at least as scary as it was amazing. They were starting to understand why she was one of the Night Shift's honorary members, but yet, they couldn't say anything, simply staring at her, open-mouthed.
– Does it sound good, does it? she asked, jumping up and down from excitement. If you say yes, or simply nod considering y'all state, I'll phone my associates immediately! Y'know, to make the money transfer to the witnesses! Well, fake witnesses.
– Yeah, that sounds solid, began Dove, and-...
– Perfect! I'll be right back!
In a rush, Kalei was out of the room, dialing a number and holding the device to her ear. Dusk gave a worried look to the rest of the team.
–...Are we sure she's not a cop? It's wicked, she knows everything about us!
– Thorn confirmed her identity, answered Blaze.
– She sure is... Speedy, and extremely efficient, commented Dove.
– Speedy's not the word, sis, chuckled Phase, you meant hyperactive.
– Oh, yeah, this too.
– Everything's in place, the witnesses are all paid! We're good to go!
As fast as she had left, Kalei was back, happily smirking. Dove nodded at her arrival, a determined smile coming onto her lips; it was impossible their plan would fail. They were going to be together, and now counted talented allies. It would all go well.
– Perfect. Now, we'll prepare the rest.
__________
–...Can you repeat what you just said?
– You heard it well, Kiss. Taro is alive.
Kiss' thunderstruck expression exceeded Veil's one, and she started to nervously walk in circles inside the recording room. How could Ether remain perfectly still after such a new? For her, it felt like a slap in the face; this sole person could ruin their entire plan. She rubbed her face with both of her hands, trying not to panic as well as she could, while Ether rolled her eyes up to the ceiling.
– Calm down, this is actually even better. It's more work, but when we'll be done, we'll be completely free. Power will be us, Kiss. The Old Crew's glory will be back.
– Magnified, added Veil, magnified.
– What about Taro? Interrogated the other Lieutenant. If she tells the girl everything, it won't be Atlas that'll go down, but us.
– Stop worrying like that, sighed the blonde. Tomorrow morning, Dove will be separated from what she calls her family, and will end up alone, face-to-face with Atlas. No boyfriend, no sister, no brothers. She'll be alone with the man who shut her aunt up for twenty-two years.
– What, shouted Kiss, you didn't tell her that Taro was her-...
– No. This, she'll remember tomorrow, between every nice little memories I've left her. Trust me, Atlas won't get out uninjured.
– And us? Shrugged the man. What about us? Do not tell me we'll just wait there?
– Of course not.
Ether showed them a satisfied grin; she planned it from the beginning to the end, they would succeed. They would be back to their previous grandiosity, and as Veil would say, to even more than that. The entire district would be at their feet, and soon, it would be the entire city.
– We are going too, tomorrow. Let's image it simply... We're going to do some spring cleaning inside Amnesia's ranks.
Abruptly, the door opened, and entered a gaunt man dressed in a red suit-and-tie, of a tone following his hair's hues, his right and only eye put on Ether and a rictus on his emaciated face.
– And this time, they won't run away like rats from fire. Right, Boss?
– You're right, Abel. This time... They'll burn in it.
