I took a few deep breaths and out my hands on either side of the sink, looking up at myself in the mirror.
"Breathe. You're fine, you can do this. Play cool. You're okay." I whisper to myself, and repeated it a few times. I grabbed my phone out of my back pocket and checked the time. I had been in the bathroom for five minutes, I don't want to be gone too long.
After taking one last deep breath, i opened the bathroom door and made my way back to everyone, to see them all clearing off the table. "Dianna, can I help you with anything? Dishes, cleaning up?" I asked her, grabbing things off of the table. Dianna shook her head at me "No sweetie, you're a guest" she told me with a slight laugh.
"Yes, but this weekend is for you. Let me do this, please." I asked her, grabbing the dishes she had in her hand. She gave me thankful smile and squeezed my arm. "You're too sweet. Thank you." She told me. I nodded and went to the sink, where I started doing the dishes.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Demi walk next to me and lean against the counter. She looked at me for a second, and gave a small smirk when she raised her eyebrows.
"What?" I asked her. Demi shook her head and moved closer to me. "Nothing. Just watching you."
"Well why don't you take a picture, it'll last longer" I told her winking. Demi took this opportunity to grab out her phone and actually take a picture of me.
"Okay i didn't mean literally." I said laughing. "I know" she said smiling, and she and bit her lip. I felt Demi get closer to me, and as she reached across me to grab a towel, her other hand rest briefly on the bottom of my back. I inhaled sharply as i felt the touch.
I saw her smirking slightly as she was standing right next to me now, drying the dishes I had just watched. I could feel the tension start to build up, i just had no clue what to do about it.
I continued to dodge Demi's evident stares at me, because I was too nervous to look at her. But one time, I did. I looked into those brown eyes and i just got lost in them. I couldn't help but glance down at her lips, and wanting so badly for mine to connect with her hers. I saw her do the same, and slowly we both started to lean in.
"Demi! Come here and look at this." Her mom had called from the living room, where everyone had migrated to. Demi rolled her eyes and dried off her own hands, tossing the towel on the counter and walked into the living room.
Taking a moment to catch my breath, I felt someone else come beside me. "Jeez, you guys were in so deep you didn't realize I was standing there the whole time." Madison said, grabbing the towel and continued drying the dishes for Demi.
I laughed nervously, focusing on what I was doing. "What are you talking about?" I asked, and saw the other girl roll her eyes.
"Really? The like five minute long eye contact, the glances, her hand on your back. I'm not blind ya know." Madison said laughing. I sighed to myself as I handed her the last plate.
"Well if you have any idea of what that was you let me know because I have no clue" I told her, as I was leaning against the counter facing madison.
"Oh so this isn't like... a thing?" She asked, using here finer to point between me and the living room. I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. Nothing has been said, nothing has even been DONE. Her acting like this kinda happened fast, while I've been trying to grow the balls to tell her how I feel for weeks now."
Madison gave me a sad smile, as she put the last dish away and dried her hands. "Demi... is weird when it comes to these things I've noticed. It's like, every time this happens no one can tell what she's feeling until it's evident and or said if something happened, or if something didn't happen."
