Fenrir returned to us. We explained to him what Keiran had explained to us.

"I see you understand the Path Of Lightning. Today, I'll teach you about the Range Of Energy Waves" Fenrir said.

"Okay" Ciella said.

"Every form of Energy is more focused as it approaches its Source. For instance, Heat increases as one nears a Flame or the Sun. As the distance between the Source Of Energy and its Destination increase, the Energy Wave loses strength or focus. Of course, there are ways to amplify each form of Energy Wave and thus extend its Range. The focus or strength of each category of Wave are determined by a unique set of factors per category of Energy Wave. For instance, in terms of Light, its range is determined for one thing by the density of the medium through which it flows. It's also determined by the Shade or Colour of the medium through which it flows. Light flowing through a transparent medium has greater range than Light flowing through a translucent or opaque medium. In terms of density, Light has greater range in Air which is less dense than in Water with greater density" Fenrir explained.

"I see" I realized what Fenrir was getting at.

"With Sound Waves, its range is also determined by the density of the medium. Sound flows more freely in a porous medium than in a compact medium which is why it's easier to hear Sound when one is standing behind an open window with netting than a closed window made from airtight material such as glass. You know Sound typically travels through Air which acts as its medium. When a person stands behind an Aerial Shield, it becomes possible to obstruct the flow of Sound and completely seal it" Fenrir said.

"I see, so for Light its range is determined by the Density, Shade and Colour of the Medium and for Sound it's determined by the Density and Mass of the Medium?" Concordia asked.

"Exactly. That brings us to Lightning. In terms of Lightning, its range is for the most parts determined by the Conductivity of the medium and how susceptible it is to ionization" Fenrir explained.

"I see, in other words its range is determined by how resistant the medium is to Lightning and how easy it is for the medium to transform from an atom into an ion huh?" Keiran realized.

"Atoms typically transform into ions, in other words, they become electrically charged when they lose or gain electrons" I pointed out.

"In other words you're trying to say the range of Lightning can be determined by how easy or difficult it is for an atom to give out or gain an electron. Isn't that so Gramps?" Arlene realized.

"You're all very perceptive. This is true. When the area surrounding charged particles of air is highly susceptible to the process of ionization, Lightning has a vast range. When it is less susceptible to the process of ionization, the range of Lightning is limited. When Lightning makes contact with Earth or any Solid Object, it can extend its range if the object is susceptible to ionization, that is, if the object possesses the requirements needed to act as a conductor. If the object does meet this requirement, the range of Lightning is amplified. If the object does not, the range of Lightning becomes limited. Thus the susceptibility of any material to the process of ionization can determine the range of Lightning" Fenrir concluded the lesson.
