Episode 80: Magnification Of Waves!

"Now it's time to backtrack a bit. I'm certain by now you've grasped the relationship that exists between Waves and Senses so I won't have to repeat the basics. As I said earlier, the Sensory Ability granted by a Wave is to a large extent determined by the focus of the Wave. A sharp focus grants a clear image of the various forms of Energy a particular Wave allows one to perceive. However, when the focus is diffused, the Sensory Ability granted by the Wave is unclear and blurred. A predominant factor determining a Wave's focus is the number of obstacles between the Source Of Energy emitting the Wave and the Wave's destination. I already explained how that works in my lesson on Bending Waves" my Dad said.

"You did" Arlene noted.

"Well there are ways to adjust a Wave's focus. Adjusting a Wave's focus could either restore the clarity of the Sensory Ability granted by the Wave or diminish this clarity. Both methods employ the method of Refraction to an extent. The ability to adjust a Wave's focus is commonly referred to as 'Magnification'" my Dad said. "With regards to Light Waves, Magnification can be achieved through one of two methods. The first method is referred to as the 'Convergence Of Waves'. Convergence of Waves is a method that exists to increase the clarity of the Sensory Ability granted by a particular Wave. This is achieved by focusing the Waves emitted by a particular Energy Source to a single point. When this is achieved with Light Waves, perception of distance for instance can be greatly reduced allowing one to perceive a distant object as though the object were nearby. This is how Telescopes and Microscopes predominantly function. As I explained earlier, most Energy Sources that emit Light also emit Heat as well. By converging the Light Wave, it becomes possible to focus the Heat Waves to a single point as well" my Dad explained.

"Like the Solar Death Ray Formation" I said with a smirk.

"Exactly" my Dad said with a laugh.

"The second method of Magnification is referred to as the 'Divergence Of Waves'. This is a method that exists to reduce the clarity of a Sensory Ability granted by a particular Wave by spreading the Waves generated by an Energy Source over a wide area. When this is achieved with Light Waves, perception of distance can be greatly increased causing even nearby objects to appear as though they were far off. Another way the Sensory Ability granted by the Wave may be diminished is that the image might become blurred. Obviously, the focus of the Wave also determines the sharpness of the Sensory Ability granted by the Wave. The greater the focus, the sharper the Sensory Ability, the lesser the focus, the more blurred or distorted the Sensory Ability becomes. Also, due to the relationship that exists between Light and Heat, by diverging the Wave, one can disperse the Heat as well" my Dad explained.

"I see, so Convergence of Waves increases the clarity of the Sensory Ability granted by the Wave through the focus of the Wave to a single point. Doing this can also result in the convergence of Heat Waves due to the unique relationship that exists between Light and Heat. It can also greatly decrease one's perception of distance. Divergence of Waves on the other hand exists to reduce the clarity of a Wave by spreading the Wave over a vast area. Its effects include the blurring of the ability of a Sense to perceive the forms of Energy the Wave grants visibility over as well as greatly increasing perception of distance. It also possesses the ability to disperse Heat" I realized.
