EPISODE 78: XCALIBUR AOP 2! UNION OF THE WORLDS! THE FOURTH SESSION! THERINGS OF OLYMPUS PART IX: CIELLA COMMENCES ELEMENTAL CONTROL PRACTICE PART II:DISCOVERING CIELLA'S AFFINITIES PART II: MATERIAL AND IMMATERIAL LIGHT!
The following day, Ciella met me at the Park within our Peristylium.
"Looks like you're all geared up" I said.
Ciella laughed.
"How do we begin?" Ciella asked.
"Well...I sorta think you may have an affinity for Light, Fire, Wind, Water and Earth" I said.
"Really? How come?" Ciella asked.
"In a sense, a Dream Knight's Elemental Affinities and Sigils are more often than naught tied to their identities. To put it in simple terms, Superheroes have costumes that match their abilities and insignias that bear either their names or the names of their alter egos or ideals don't you think?" I attempted to explain to Ciella.
It looked like she understood the point I was making.
"Your name is 'Ciella Solstice'. Ciella for the 'Sky' which is coloured by the Sun, Moon and Stars, bodies that generate Light. The Sun and Stars generate Flame as well so it might be an affinity of yours as well. To top it off you said your name signifies the point where the Sky and Sea become One or the Horizon in simple terms thus you might possess an affinity for Water and Wind which are predominant traits of the Sky. The Horizon is also the point where the Sky meets the Earth so Earth may also be an affinity of yours" I explained.
"Whoa! So that's how it works huh?" Ciella exclaimed in awe.
I nodded. I began by explaining the elements of Wind, Water and Earth to Ciella as Keiran had done.
"Now it's time for me to explain the element of Light to you" I said.
Ciella paid close attention.
"Light is the element that gives all other elements form and defines their unique characteristics. When Light moves over the surfaces of objects, it reveals the various shades, colour as well as texture of the objects. Thus Light is also known as the Element Of Revelation. It possesses the ability to permeate all objects and to reveal their forms and characteristics. Its immense speed connotes mobility as well and since Light can permeate all objects, Light Element Users can naturally comprehend and utilize all elements" I explained.
Ciella listened closely.
"There are two categories of Light. They are known as Material and Immaterial Light" I explained.
"Two categories?" Ciella wondered.
I nodded.
"Material Light grants Sensory Abilities. It is the kind of Light that grants Visibility over Physical Objects, also possessing the power to dispel Darkness. Material Light mostly exhibits characteristics of Linear Flow. It typically moves in a straight path. Its energy can be absorbed by elements possessing a darker shade of colour however it cannot be absorbed by Darkness itself but rather repels Darkness. On the other hand, its path can only be altered by elements possessing a brighter shade of colour. These elements possess the capacity to reflect it thus absorbing minimal energy. It's why the exterior of most houses are painted with brighter shades of colour especially in countries that have a predominantly high temperature. This bright shade reflects instead of absorbing Sunlight to preserve the coolness of the Building's interior. Material Light typically travels in a straight path until it enters into a denser medium such as Water or Glass. In that case, its path is altered and it is refracted. This phenomenon is due to the Light hitting against more compact molecules than that of the medium from which it flowed. The unique trait of Refraction grants Material Light the ability to alter perception of distance. When Refraction is combined with Reflection, Material Light can altogether render objects invisible" I explained to Ciella. "To put it simply, the predominant trait of Material Light is its ability to grant vision over Physical Objects" I summarized the lesson.
"What of Immaterial Light?" Ciella asked.
"Have you understood the lesson on Material Light so far?" I asked.
Ciella nodded.
"I think so. It didn't sound so difficult since it's kinda like basic Physics" Ciella said.
I smiled.
"You do have an affinity for Light after all" I said with a smile.
Ciella smiled in return.
"Fine then, I'll explain the traits of Immaterial Light now. Unlike Material Light which is visible and grants Sensory Abilities over the Physical, Immaterial Light is a completely invisible spectrum of Light and cannot be seen with the Human Eyes ordinarily. It grants Extrasensory capabilities over the Abstract. To put it simply, it grants one the ability to see what one cannot see with the eyes alone by expanding the Senses predominantly the sense of Sight. It grants a person the ability to perceive objects without form. Most Physical Objects are static in nature and have very clearly defined traits. On the other hand, most abstract objects possess the ability to transition almost endlessly in form. How the viewer perceives the object or the form the object takes is mostly dependent on the viewer's level of growth, knowledge, understanding and perception. Thus a single abstract object can possess countless forms, meanings and connotations depending first on the person who views it and secondly on that person's level of understanding and open-mindedness thus Immaterial Light grants vision of the Abstract or Invisible and may not necessarily be as linear or rigid or ordered as Material Light. Another thing you need to take into consideration is that both Material and Immaterial Light can be harmful to humans depending on the intensity of the Spectrum. That's why in Biblical Stories, the Seraphim shield their bodies and faces with four of their Wings when in the presence of God and why the Earth is scientifically known to possess an ozone layer that filters off harmful spectra of Light" I explained to Ciella.
"I see, so Material Light connotes Vision and Immaterial Light connotes Revelation, Truth, Knowledge and Wisdom right?" Ciella asked.
"You really do understand" I was surprised at how quickly Ciella had grasped the concept.
"Uh huh" she said with a laugh.
