A year has passed, Ashley and Jeff are now eleven years old and are about to start their first day of middle school. Ashley wakes up to a knock on her door, "what?" she asks in a tired tone.
"Rise and shine cowgirl, it's your first day of middle school today. So, get ready and get your tail downstairs!" says Jessie through the door. Ashley groans as she gets out of bed. She turns on her lamp and wipes her eyes, she gets up and walks over to her closet where she takes out a black t-shirt, some black jeans, and some black socks. She heads to the bathroom, and takes a shower, she then gets out and gets dressed. She looks in the mirror,
"Should I wear makeup?" she asks herself. She looks at her makeup kit and back at the mirror. "Nah, too much work." She brushes her hair, and teeth and goes to her room and puts on her black boots. She walks downstairs where she sees her mom, and Jessie talking with each other by the table, she goes and sits down beside Jessie.
"Morning cowgirl, that's all you're gonna wear?"
"Yeah, you know I'm not much of a dresser."
"But it's your first day of middle school. I just figured you'd want to wear something nice to make a good first impression."
"I don't need to impress anyone."
"How about Jeff?" asks Ms. Smith.
"What? Jeff and I are friends mom, he's gonna be cool with whatever I wear. Plus who's he to judge anyone's fashion sense, he wears the same white hoodie and black dress pants everyday."
"You know what you're right, you're perfect just the way you are," says Jessie.
"Thank you."
"Here ya go you two, pancakes, eat them up quick. You said you wanted to take the bus with Jeff because his parents couldn't drive him anymore. So that means you have to wake up earlier, and eat quicker before that bus comes," says Ms. Smith.
"Yeah, mom, I get it." She eats her pancakes and puts her plate in the sink, "Alright, I think I'm ready." She walks over to the coat rack and grabs her black leather jacket, she throws it on along with her black beanie. She grabs her backpack, and her mom says,
"Have a good day honey, I love you!" She hugs and kisses her.
"Same here, go out there and show the world who you are cowgirl! Let nothing stop you!" says Jessie as she kisses her on the cheek. She walks out the door and waves at them as she walks down the sidewalk to the bus stop.
She makes it to the bus stop and sits down on the bench, she sits there for a bit watching the cars go by on the street. Something jumps out from behind the bench, she jumps back in fright. She looks up and sees that it's Jeff, laughing. "Oh my god!" she punches him in the shoulder, "Not cool dude."
"I got you good didn't I?" He continues to laugh.
"You only got me because I wasn't paying attention."
"Sure, so how was your morning?"
"It was okay I guess, how was yours?"
"Same, you look nice by the way."
"I wear this almost everyday, but thanks."
"Not true last week you wore that black dress to church."
"I was forced too, Jessie said I had 'to look nice for the lord."
Jeff laughs and says, "Well, I don't care what you wear, because at the end of the day you're still Ashley, and no clothing item on this planet can replace that personality."
"You're so sweet, that's why you're my best friend." The bus pulls up to the bus stop and they get on it, Jeff and Ashley go and sit in a seat at the back of the bus. "So, why couldn't your parents drive you again?"
