My hands tremble by my sides and I'm too stressed to try and hide the shake in them. The woods are filled with so many mixed scents that it bothers my nose. My wolf can't detect and detach the mixed smells. The leaves crunch under my feet as we walk through the forest to get to the well. Alec walks by my side in complete silence. We've been like this ever since Elliot revealed the wicked plan of his parents. Him and Ryker tried to stop me, but I refused to stay back at the pack house and wait for whatever is going to happen tonight. I needed to be here in order for the plan to work and stop the war.
I notice a few of the Blood moon werewolves on the way to the well, all of them either leaning against the trees or sitting on some rocks. They're all waiting for us to call them, waiting for the outbreak of the war.
Tyler and Thomas lead the way, while Samantha trails slowly behind them. Me and Alec are a few feet behind them. The tension in the woods is so strong it makes my limbs jitter with anxiety and anticipation. What's going to happen to us? Will I survive tonight?
The well isn't so far away anymore and the werewolves of the Blood moon pack are in fewer numbers now. It was too close to the well and Frederick could find out about the ambush. I do notice some of them, like Ryker. He stands by a tree and some bushes, his crouching figure almost completely hidden by the leaves of the bushes. His steel blue eyes look up to me and he gives me a curt nod which I return.
"You ready?" Tyler turns around to direct the question to me, Al and Sam, while Tommy glances over his shoulder for just a second. "Ready as I'll ever be." Samantha replies to her mate, while my brother's eyes glance back to me and Alec. My best friend gives him a nod, while I glance over to the side. "As long as we don't die..." I trail off and then shrug my shoulders. I don't know where I was aiming with that. But Tyler understands my words, even if I don't know what they mean.
The scents of the two packs mix together at the well, they become stronger. Some of the scents smell murky and musky, while others have a powerful scent of anger and courage in them. It makes my head spin from all the different smells. But only one scent stands out of the crowd, it's a scent of sweet caramel. Elliot is completely calm, I could tell it by his pheromones.
We come through the bushes, the few thorns digging against my jacket, but I almost don't feel the scratching. The atmosphere was too intense, all eyes on us as we step out. I can feel Frederick's eyes directly on me as we come out from the leaves, which makes an unsettling feeling build up in my lower stomach. It's like I'd be carrying rocks around.
We head to the side where my father stands, his chin held up high and his eyes glaring at the Midnight pack's Luna.
I stand next to Knox, just like a week ago, but this time my uncle figure doesn't give me a comforting smile. He's tense, almost angry at the sight of our enemy pack. I glance over to the other side of the well, noticing Elliot stand by his father's left side, his eyes trained on me. The green in them almost shines in the day that is slowly turning into night and a feeling of safety washes over me. He's here, he's going to do everything he can to save me. He won't let anyone hurt me. Elliot made that clear.
"Now that everyone's here, we can start." Frederick's grin is anything but welcoming. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand, the way his brown eyes drill into me. "You've had one week to decide. I'm sure your decision is wise." My heart almost triples it's pace when Frederick says that.
It makes me glance over to Elliot and I notice how he opens his hand, his palm facing the ground, before he lets it completely drop. He's telling me to calm down. I'm sure everyone around me could hear my fast beating heart, not just my mate who is focusing on me. But how could I calm down if this could possibly be the end of me?
