Aurora was stood confused. She unfolded the piece of paper that was clutched in her hands and noticed right away that it was a letter, Newt's neat handwriting being woven on the paper.

Dear Rory,

This is the first letter I can remember writing. Obviously I don't know whether I wrote any before the Maze, but even if it's not it's my last.

I'm sorry Aurora. I am sorry I couldn't be strong enough for you, strong enough for everyone. Everyday I wake up, and I just feel empty. It feels like I'm missing something important... but this bloody Maze has taken away any chance of me finding it again.

I feel empty. When I go to sleep at night, I hope that I won't wake up. I've done a rubbish job at being a Runner, our job was to find a way out, yet we aren't any closer to an exit than we were a shucking year ago. I feel like I've let everyone down — especially you.

You're like my sister Rory, and I want you to get out of here. I'm sorry that I wasn't the one who would be able to do that for you. I know you'll be angry, and you'll blame yourself — wondering why you didn't see the signs.

But it's not your fault. It was never your fault.

It was the Creator's bloody fault for sending children up to this inescapable hell hole. When you get of here Rory, give them a good punch for me would you?

I hope that you'll be happy Aurora, truly. I want the best for you. Look after everyone, though I'm sure you would do that anyway.

This is my choice; I have accepted it. I'll finally be free and at peace — escaping this Maze for once and for all.

Thank you for being my friend.
Goodbye love,

Newt

Aurora had finished reading and the tears were freely flowing down her cheeks. She felt so angry. How could the Creator's do such a thing that would make someone feel so trapped in their own mind?

It repulsed her.

She took several deep breaths, still sobbing and clutching the letter tightly in her hand. She had to save him, even though he didn't wish to be saved. Aurora sprinted out of the Med-jack hut and immediately bumped into Alby who was watching Lysander attempt to pick the tomatoes.

"Alby," Aurora gasped, "did you see where Newt went?"

Alby shook his head, "Why? Is it important — "

Aurora ceased his talking by shoving the letter Newt had written for her into his hands. Lysander had stopped picking the tomatoes, swallowed visibly and gazed at Aurora.

"I saw him going into the Maze." Lysander admitted, his eyebrows furrowed while Alby's face dropped into an 'o' shape. "About five minutes ago."

Aurora looked at her watch that she had stolen off Minho. "The walls close in fifteen minutes..." she said anxiously, waiting for Alby to finish reading the letter.
