RAINY DAYS

Aurora awoke and the rain was still sliding down her window. She slowly shifted in the bed and sat up, bringing her knees to her chest. Aurora looked across at Alex and he was still fast asleep — deep snores rumbling from out of his chest.

The rain was now pouring heavily down from the heavens, it going splat splat on the window. It kept hitting it so hard that Aurora thought the window might've broke.

She seemed calm for a moment until a thought hit her, I've never seen rain at the Glade before. Aurora laughed out loud at herself, it was only rain but she seemed rather excited for it.

Aurora took her pillow off her bed and launched it Alex, it hitting him squarely in the face (she had to muffle her laughter.) Alex immediately sat up in his bed, his curls wild and untamed as he glared at Aurora who had a wide grin on her face.

"Why did you do that?" he asked, lying back down in the bed but keeping Aurora's pillow hostage. "Don't you have anything better to do than to annoy the crap out of me?"

"Ummmm," she contemplated, dragging the 'm' out, "no not really if I'm honest."

"Slinthead." Alex muttered, still keeping a tight grasp on Aurora's pillow.

They sat in comfortable silence for several minutes while Aurora got dressed, opting to wear a pale red shirt. As she finished buttoning the top button, Alex interrupted the silence.

"Why did you wake me up anyway?" he asked, getting out of bed and starting to make his bed, walking around the edge and tightly tucking in the corners.

"It's raining!" Aurora said excitedly, now bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Look!"

Alex made his way over to the window and stared out of it, folding his arms over his chest. "Shuck it really is raining," he said, glancing back to Aurora. "I doubt it'll stop, Alby won't let anyone do anything today probably."

"Why not?" Aurora asked, moving to stand beside Alex and peer out of the glass window. She could see that the rain was starting to form large puddles and Aurora also saw Frypan running out of the kitchen and towards the Homestead on his own which caused her to pause and think.

"Because it won't be safe," he replied simply. "Also, what's going on in your head?" Alex asked, flicking her temple with his fingers. She jokingly punched his shoulder although she had to stand on her tiptoes to do it.

"I'm just wondering what job Frank got chosen for that's all..." she trailed, desperately hoping that he wouldn't now be a Med-jack. There was only so much of that boy's presence that Aurora could handle.

"Slicer." Alex replied smirking. "Winston didn't look too happy about it though. It was the only job Frank was good at so he had to choose him."
