WAKE UP

Aurora awoke with a jolt

Aurora awoke with a jolt. She lazily opened her eyes and was greeted with white light momentarily until her eyes adjusted. Aurora looked around at her surroundings and noticed how she was laid down in the Med-jack hut bed, being propped up on a folded blanket.

Around her was empty drink glasses, the rims being dirty which caused her to turn her nose up in disgust at the lack of hygiene in a room where hygiene and cleanliness needed to be important.

The room was silent, only Aurora's heavy breathing could be heard. She pushed herself up using her arms and sat up in the bed, eyes swivelling around the Med-jack hut. She was alone.

A heavy sigh left her mouth as her eyes noticed an empty syringe beside her, W.C.K.D engraved on it in shiny silver. Aurora reached over and picked it up, turning it over in her hands.

I must've been stung, she concluded, recognising the syringe that Alex stored messily in the cupboards above her head.

She felt a low pain come from her lower back and she turned around to reach it, rubbing small soothing circles into it. It felt sore to touch, the skin feeling slightly irritated.

Aurora swung her legs over the bed and slowly lifted herself up so she was now sitting upright in the rickety bed. So many people had used the bed, and she never believed that she would've been one of them.

There's a first time for everything.

The Med-jack hut was dirty, bandages and scissors littering the sides. The sink was full with dirty items, but the sink didn't have any water in it and several cobwebs were stuck in the corners of the high ceiling.

Who knows how long Aurora was out for but one thing is for certain is that the boys couldn't keep the hut tidy without her.

She slowly stood her, her bare feet landing on the wooden floor. Aurora wearily walked over to the back window of the Med-jack hut and saw her boys sat on the benches eating breakfast looking rather depressed.

Minho seemed to have a permanent frown on his face, his eyes looking tired and as if he had been crying a lot recently.

Alex was resting his head in his right hand, his elbow propped up on the picnic bench. His lips were pouted and his hair had turned into unruly curls, looking more like a lion than usual.

Alby was slowly eating his breakfast, spooning the cereal into his mouth with a look of disgust. Aurora could make out dark purple circles under his eyes — he looked as if he had zero sleep in the past few days.

Newt had his forehead rested on the table, his blond hair lying all over the table. And then Lysander was resting his head on Newt's back, his bowl seeming completely full.

Scanning the rest of the Gladers, Aurora noticed they all seemed quiet and upset. Hardly anyone was talking, the silence being carried on the gentle wind.
