That night, I sat in my bed, reading a book. Sea Star. But I'm distracted, despite the fact that it's a great book, I've been reading the same page for the past 20 minutes. That was because every once in a while, I would hear Sondra and Blake yelling downstairs. Yes, they had yelled so loud that I heard them at 3 floors up. I finally decided that there was no way I could enjoy my book when there was yelling in the background so I closed my book and crept downstairs. I could still hear Sondra yelling,
"You went out?! YOU WENT OUT?! You said you weren't going anywhere today! Besides, you still have a book report due on Monday! Did you do it?! NO! You, you are grounded, Zendaya Johnson!
I put my ear on the door.
"But mom! I-" Zendaya started to say, but Blake cut in,
"You went out, breaking the rules around this house missy," he says, "no buts."
"I-" She started to say again,
"NO BUTS," Sondra yells,
"I went out with Liam okay?!" Zendaya starts to yell too,
Wait, what? She went out with LIAM?! As in Liam, the guy I like?? How dare she.
"I have a feeling for Liam, and he has a feeling for me. A connection maybe. Besides, he asked me out. I just didn't want you guys to know that cause then you'll accuse me of stealing MacKenzi's boyfriend!" She goes on, "He says that he thinks MacKenzi was just a friend but I was kind of his girlfriend."
I couldn't hear anymore, I crept back up. Slammed my door, and buried my head into my pillow, and sobbed.
At school, I actually succeeded in ignoring Liam. Zendaya wasn't at school because she was grounded for dating the guy I like! But at lunch, Liam sat next to me and asked, "Are you okay? Why aren't you talking?"
I picked up my plate and dumped it into the trash and came back.
"You dated Zendaya Johnson yesterday didn't you?" I ask.
"No, I-" he begins,
"Yes, you did!" I say, trying, and failing, to blink back tears, "I heard Zendaya, she got into trouble for leaving the house and not telling her parents!"
"Listen," he says, "Me and Zendaya were just going out as friends.""You are cheating on me! Do you know that?! If you don't feel like I'm the right girl for you, maybe we should just call it quit." I stood up and tried to walk away,
but Liam blocked my path.
"What?!" I demand.
"It's not like that," he explains, "I invited Zendaya over because she told me that she was bored. Plus, Zen was over exaggerating, we were just going out as friends."
"How did you even know her phone number?" I ask, narrowing my eyes.
"I-I got it from her," he admits sheepishly, "When you invited me over to swim,"
"I don't believe it!" I say, "I knew there was something between you and her."
"Wait, Kenzi, believe me really, I like you, like like you, please believe me," he says.
I roll my eyes, Sure you do I thought
"I really do!" he says, practically reading my mind, "Believe me, Kenzi."
I sigh, "Okay, fine, I believe you, but if there is any more funny business, this relationship is done." I make my arms into an 'X' sign.
Liam nods, "Right, no funny business, you have my word."
"I better do."
