I was feeling sick so I was in my room at Dr. Kreizler's house. Instead of doing my usual duties of cleaning and cooking, I was sitting in bed reading. I just finished a chapter when there was a light knock on my door. "Y/n, it's me." I heard the doctor say on the other side of the door. "Come in." I replied as I closed my book and sat in on my bedside table. The door opened and I saw that he had a tray of food in his hands. "You didn't have to do that Laszlo." I said feeling a little embarrassed. People have been waiting on me all day and I just didn't feel right about it. Maybe it's because I was use to doing stuff during the day for other people. "I got your favorite from Delmonico's. I hope you're feeling better, Y/n." He said as he walked further into the room. "Thank you Laszlo. And yes, I'm feeling a little better. Good enough to actually eat something anyways." I replied, and he gave me one of his small smiles. He sat the tray on my lap before lifting the lid to reveal my favorite meal. The smell made my stomach growl with hunger. The sound must have been louder than I realized, because Laszlo chuckled lightly and his smile grew. "You must be hungry." He said and I blushed. I said that I was and he turned to leave, but I asked him to stay. Even though he already ate he chose to stay with me. We talked about his day at the institute. I knew he was busy because he was doing interviews with kids to see who would attend in the fall.

He practically ran a school for abandoned and wayward children. When I was finished eating I sat the tray on the bedside table after grabbing my book to sit it in my lap. "How is the book you're reading?" Laszlo asked, breaking the comfortable silence. "It's really good. I think you might like it, but I know you barely have time to even go to the opera nowadays." I replied. "I am busy, but I always make time for reading, the opera, and friends." He said with a cute smile as he reached towards my face. He gently brushed my cheek and I blushed like a fool. "Eyelash." He said as he showed the little hair on his finger. "Thanks." I replied with a very shy laugh. He studied me with his big brown eyes. He had eyes anyone could get lost in; they looked so beautiful. I knew he noticed that I was blushing, but he didn't say anything and I was grateful for that. I didn't feel like confessing that I have a crush on him. But I know he probably already knew. He is an Alienist after all. After a few moments he said he had to go to his study to do some work for the institute. I wanted nothing more than for him to stay and read with me, but I knew he couldn't. So we said goodnight to each other. My heart ached for him as I watched him close my bedroom door behind him as he left. 'Y/n, he isn't over Mary. He probably won't love you back... at least not the way you love him.' I thought and tears came to my eyes. But I fought them back. Once I got my emotions under control I opened my book and continued reading.
