"Make sure you learn all you can and make some friends. You're better off here than staying with your parents." My uncle said to me with a sympathetic look in his eyes. "Why can't I stay with you?" I asked him curiously as he sat the last of my bags on the sidewalk. "Because they'll come looking for you. It's best if they don't know where you are." He replied, wrapping his arms around me.

I wrapped my arms around him and hoped he was right. Tears filled my eyes once we broke the hug, because I had a feeling I was never going to see him again. "Give this to Dr. Kreizler. He'll understand everything." He said as he handed me an envelope. I took it from his hand and wondered what was inside. "I'll see you around, y/n." He said before he got into his carriage and left me there.

I wiped my tears on the jacket I was wearing. Then I sat down on the front steps of the building my uncle dropped me off at. It was still early in the morning, so there weren't many people out and about. But I kept my wits about me. I didn't want my parents to sneak up on me through the morning fog. As I sat there I pulled my knees up to my chest and tried to keep myself from thinking.

The more I thought about things that more the aching feeling in my chest grew. All of a sudden, the sound of horse hooves caught my attention. I looked up and strained my eyes to see who was coming especially since the carriage was slowing down. It stopped and a large dark skinned man came down from the driver's seat. He opened the carriage door and another man stepped out onto the sidewalk.

He had pale skin that stood out against his black attire. "Dr. Kreizler?" I asked in a timid voice. He turned his head to and when he spotted me he walked towards where I was seated. I slowly stood up to not seem rude. "Yes, who's asking?" He asked with slightly furrowed brows. "My name is y/n l/n. My... my uncle told me to give this to you." I replied shyly as I handed him the envelope I had been holding.

His eyes went from me to the envelope before he took it and opened it. He unfolded a letter and his dark eyes flowed across the page without a single hitch or hesitation. Once he was finished he returned the letter to the envelope. "Cyrus, take y/n's bags inside please." The doctor said to his driver. "Yes sir." He replied before he gathered my things and did as he is as told.

"Y/n, would you join me in my office?" He asked, and I nodded. I had no idea what my uncle left in the letter. I needed to know what was going to happen to me. Especially since I'm technically on the run from my abusive parents. I followed the doctor inside where it was brighter and I could see him better. He had dark hair and a full beard. There was something foreboding and comforting about him at the same time.

He opened the office door and he gestured for me to enter, which I did. He switched on some lights before closing the door behind him. Then he offered me a seat in front of his desk. I sat down feeling very confused and scared. 'Will he keep me here like my uncle thinks he will? Or will he turn me away, forcing me to live on the streets?' I wondered curiously inside of my mind.

"From now on you'll be a ward of the Kreizler Institute, as was suggested by your uncle. I'm afraid that you'll be the oldest ward here but I don't think that will make much difference." He said in a deep, pleasant sounding voice. I couldn't help but notice how handsome he looked. But what really caught my attention was his eyes. They were so big and beautifully brown. It seemed as if there was a fire behind them.

I nodded to let him know I understood. He then took me on a tour of the place; it looked very nice and I saw myself having a rather nice time there. At least I wouldn't have to get beaten on every day or be called horrible names. Once he showed me everything, he took me to my room. "You'll have the room all to yourself. I'm sure you'll appreciate the privacy." He said and mentioned something about a uniform I'd have to wear around the other children.

"Dr. Kreizler... thank you." I said with a small smile. "You don't have to thank me, y/n. You'll be safe and sound here; that's all that matters." He replied with a small smile in return. He turned and left, but I stood there and watched him disappear around a corner before I entered my new room. I had a feeling that this place would become a better home than the one I left behind.
