"I know you don't want to talk about this, but we have to. I've been so confused since it happened and I know you have been too." Zemo said, breaking the comfortable silence that was hanging heavily over us. We were currently on a steak out with Sam and Bucky, but they were covering the front of the building.

"Is this the really the right time? We're trying to catch a criminal for christ's sake!" I said, trying to avoid what he wanted to discuss. Just the thought of it made me blush not to mention the butterflies that filled my stomach. "Yes, it's the perfect time. We're finally alone and we're in a situation where you can't storm off and avoid me." He replied.

Sam came through the communicator and asked us for an hourly updated. I told him that nothing had happened since the last time he asked us what we saw. Deep down I thought the stake out was a busy or a distraction from something happening on the other side of the city. But there was nothing I could do, especially since the top agents are watching us like hawks.

Nothing has been the same since the Sakovian accords; a lot of people still think Sam and Bucky are criminals. If their team tucked up it would be their fault no matter what, so it was best to operate within the guidelines. Not that any of us really agreed with the guidelines, but still. "Y/n... look at me." Zemo said. I slowly turned my head to look at him and my heart skipped a beat.

"Look... I know you're still trying to accept the loss of your family. I understand that you aren't ready for another relationship, but I can't deny that I have feelings for you." I said. All of a sudden the steak out got interesting. A couple of known hydra members just entered the building from the back with a large black case.

Zemo called in the activity to our partners, and they made the first move inside. My stomach filled with anxiety and adrenalin now that something was actually happening. For weeks we've been doing nothing but exhausting ourselves by staying up late at night. "Thank you." Zemo said softly. "For what?" I asked with furrowed brows.

What he had said took me out of my train of thought. "For understanding. I didn't want to hurt you, especially since you've been so kind to me." He said. When I looked over at him once more I saw this his beautiful eyes were filled with sympathy. I just gave him a small smile before I looked away. In that moment I wish I could have taken everything back.

I wished I never let my feeling slip and told him that I love him. I just felt like a complete idiot. Sam told us to start moving in, and the two of us got out of our car and slowly moved towards the back entrance of the building. As soon as we got inside all hell broke loose. Gun shots were going off and I swear I heard some kind of smoke grenade or something explode.

We pulled our guns out and proceeded with caution. Within minutes the fight started coming to us. Bullets were whizzing past us as we fired back. "Don't let them escape!" Zemo yelled at me from his place of cover. The minutes felt like hours before someone said anything. Bucky informed us that they secured the virus that had been stolen, and that we should fall back.

The two of us shot two more hydra members down before we turned and hurried to the car. Once we were inside, Zemo literally floored it and tore out of the alleyway we had been parked in. After a while he slowed down to the speed limit, and some of the adrenalin faded. That's when I became aware of a searing pain in my right arm. "Fuck! When the hell did I get shot?" I said, and Zemo nearly wrecked the vehicle.

"How bad are you bleeding?" He asked me curiously. "Not too bad. I think was a graze rather than an actual hit." I replied, but the pain was getting worse as time went on. Once we got back to headquarters I was taken to the medical wing. After I got patched up, my teammates came to see me. "How are you feeling?" Sam asked me curiously with pride and concern in his eyes.

"Better." I replied with a small smile. "You did good out there, y/n. Don't let your trainer tell you any different." Bucky said. "Yeah, injuries always happen no matter what kind of fight it is. I'm just glad you're okay." Zemo said, which touched my heart. Sam joked about Zemo actually having emotions and Bucky put his two cents in as well.

After they left, Zemo rolled his eyes and sat down on the bed next to me. "You know they pick on you like that because they like you, right?" I said with an amused smile. "I guess." He replied with a shrug. A few moments of silence passed between us before he broke it. "Just don't scare me like that again." Zemo said softly, which took my by surprise.

"What do you mean?" I asked with furrowed brows. "I know it sounds silly, but I thought I was going to lose you." He said with a sad look in his eyes. "You can't get rid of me that easily." I replied, and a small smile spread across his handsome face. I smiled when he wrapped an arm around me and kissed the top of my head. He might not love me the way I love him, but I know he loves me as a friend. And to be honest... that's enough for me.
