I woke up having a slight headache, which only made me more confused about my surroundings. I was in a large room that looked like an office. Bookshelves stuffed with leather bound books lined the walls, and a big wooden desk sat on the far end of the room. A large conservatory styled window allowed golden rays of sunlight to filter into the room. I noticed that I was laying on a comfortable dark green colored couch. 'Where am I?' I wondered inside of my head as I moved the blanket that was over me a little. The sound of a door opening behind the couch caught my attention. I craned my neck to see who was entering the room.
A man wearing a black suit with dark hair and beard walked into the room, closing the door behind him quietly. As he moved into the light I noticed that he was holding a cup of tea in his hand. "Ah, you're awake. I took the liberty of bringing you some tea. I'm sure it'll help you feel better, but if you'd like something stronger just ask." He said as he sat the cup and saucer down on a nearby coffee table. The coffee table was made from the same wood the desk had been made from. At least it looked like it was. "Um... thank you. Could... could you tell me where I am and how I got here?" I asked him with furrowed brows. "You're at the Kreizler Institute. This is my office, and my co-workers found you sleeping outside on the steps. I'm Dr. Kreizler by the way." He replied. It took me a few moments to remember the events of last night.
Images of me leaving my home in the middle of the night came flooding back to me. I remembered that I had left because my sister's boyfriend was being verbally abusive to me, and my sister didn't seem to care. "Oh. Well... thank you for bringing me inside. I said awkwardly as I also thanked him for bringing me some tea. I picked up the tea cup and sipped the delicious liquid. "There's no need to thank me. Although... I wouldn't mind knowing your name. Just so we can find your family members." He said. My name is f/n l/n, but I doubt my family even know I ran away from home. My parents are on vacation in Europe, and my sister doesn't doesn't really care about what happens to me. "Why is that?" He asked with a curious look on his face as he took a seat in a nearby chair. "She lets her boyfriend verbally abuse me, especially when my parents aren't around." I said with a deep sigh.
Dr. Kreizler asked me various questions about my sister and parents. He wanted to know if my sister's boyfriend was abusive to her, and I knew he wasn't. I was the only one he had an issue with and I didn't know why. As we talked I actually finished drinking the tea he had given me. "Would you like some breakfast?" He asked after a moment of silence. "Yes please." I replied. I told him what I would like to eat, and he left to go tell the cooks. I also asked for coffee. The tea was delicious, but it didn't take my headache away or wake me up very much. I stood up and stretched a little, making several joints crack. I then walked around the office a little. I hoped that Dr. Kreizler didn't mind as looked at the various books that lined the shelves of his bookcases. Most of the books were medical textbooks.
I also spotted a chess set on a table with two chairs; it too was the same color as the desk and coffee table. A few minutes later he returned with a tray. He sat it in the coffee table, and I walked over to sit on the couch. "I hope you don't mind if I do some paperwork as you eat your breakfast." He said as he walked over to his desk. "Oh, no. I don't mind at all." I replied with a small smile. As he started working I began to eat the delicious food he had given me. The coffee was amazing and strong just like I like it. After eating I looked out of the window and admired the warmth of the sun. I wondered if Dr. Kreizler had contacted my sister or if she was even worried about me. But I pressed those thoughts to the back of my mind when I spotted a few children outside playing. They were wearing matching gray blue uniforms. I wondered how long I could stay here.
I didn't want to go home until my parents got back from Europe, but that wouldn't be for three more weeks. I could call and ask my uncles if I could stay with them, but I doubted that they would want me in their way. Especially since they live busy lives. "Do you need anything else?" Dr. Kreizler's voice took me out of my thoughts. I turned and looked at him, and noticed that he had beautiful brown eyes that looked like golden honey in the sunlight. "Um... I... I was wondering if it would be okay if I stayed here until my parents come back. They'll be gone for three more weeks, and I don't want to go back to my sister and her boyfriend." I said, hoping he could help me. "Well, there really isn't a spare room here for you stay in. And I don't think sleeping on the couch in my office would be ideal." He said, and was quiet for a few minutes. "You could stay at my house if you're comfortable. I have a spare room you could stay in." He eventually said.
I thought about his suggestion, and said that I would be okay with staying at his home. I just hoped that my sister and her boyfriend would be gone when I went to pack a few things. I ended up staying at the Institute all day until it was time for Dr. Kreizler to go home. He took me to my parent's place in his calash, and I felt a little nervous when we stopped at the house. "Would you like it if I went inside with you?" He asked me curiously. "Yes please." I said shyly. The two of us got out of the calash and walked into the house. I was relived when I realized that neither my sister nor her boyfriend were there. I packed some clothes and walked back to the calash. "Thank you for everything you've done for me, Dr. Kreizler. I really appreciate it more than you know." I say with a smile as we headed to his home. "It isn't a problem, y/n." He replied with a soft smile.
