A few months had passed after Daniel left for Germany. I've been missing him like crazy even though we text or call every day. But sometimes we don't get the chance to talk or text, because he is so busy. I just couldn't wait until he could come and visit me again. I was busy making homemade chicken noodle soup as I watched it snow. The ground was covered in white. It was a week away from Christmas, and I felt so alone. Most of my friends were out of town visiting family.
The sound of someone knocking on my door caught my attention. 'It's probably the nextdoor neighbor coming over to give me some Christmas candy.' I thought inside of my head as I walked towards the door. All of my neighbors knew I baked cookies, because I always have them some for Christmas. So they usually made peanut butter fudge or some kind of other candy to give me. When I opened the door I gasped in shock. I could hardly believe my eyes.
Daniel was standing on my doorstep. "Daniel!" I said happily before running to him and giving him a tight hug. He chuckled softly and hugged me back. "I thought you had to work for a few more months on that movie." I said, unable to stop myself from smiling. "I do, but they gave us all a break for the holidays. So... I decided to come and visit you." He said happily. After breaking the hug I invited him inside. It was freezing outside. He warmed up by the fireplace before we ate dinner together.
"I'm so glad you chose to make soup tonight. It's so cold out there." He said as we ate the soup and homemade bread. "The cold weather inspired me to make it." I replied with a small laugh. After we ate we washed the dishes. Once the soup had cooled down we put the leftovers in the fridge. Then we cuddled on the couch watching Christmas movies. I always dreamed of cuddling someone under a blanket watching Christmas movies. And now I was living it, and I was so happy that it was happening with Daniel.
Eventually we snacked on some cookies that I made with some hot cocoa. Then we changed into our pajamas to sleep in the same bed. "I really missed sleeping next to you while I've been away." He said as we snuggled up to each other. "I missed sleeping next to you too." I said softly, blushing a little. After a few minutes if talking and cuddling, I eventually fell asleep. The next morning I woke up before Daniel, and carefully got out of bed.
I snuck into the kitchen to start making us red and green pancakes. I added sprinkles too. The smell of the food as well as the coffee must have woke him up. He came in looking adorable and slightly sleepy. "Good morning." He said with a smile as he poured himself a cup of coffee. "Good morning sleepy head." I replied, which made him laugh softly. "I see you've made us a festive looking breakfast." He said as he looked at the pancakes. I even made eggnog whipped cream for on top. "That I have." I smiled as I finished cooking.
He helped fill the plates and we sat down to eat. "You know, we should go looking for a Christmas tree after breakfast." He said before adding whipped cream to his stack of pancakes. "That's a good idea. I actually had to throw away the old artificial tree I had last year. Mostly because a could of my friends broke it while they were drunk." I laughed remembering them falling on top of the tree. I was just glad that it didn't cost much, or I would have been angry.
After eating we cleaned up the kitchen. Then we got bundled up so we go out to the store to get a Christmas tree. The store we went to was playing Christmas music over the intercom. It was like the holiday season threw up everywhere. But it made me happy; having Daniel around really put me in a good mood. We went straight for the tree section and looked around for a while. Eventually we chose one, and then picked out some decorations as well.
Luckily I didn't have to get anything to decorate the outside of the house. My neighbors helped me put things up a week ago. We ended up buying a few other things before checking out. He insisted on paying for everything. I agreed only if I could buy us lunch at the local diner. We ended up getting hamburgers with fries and holiday milk shakes. It felt so good having him back in my day to day life again. When we got back to the house we put the tree up in the living room.
We listened to Christmas music as we decorated the tree. It was so fun, and he was so playful. Seeing him like this made me fall even more in love with him. I just was too afraid of losing him to say how I feel. I pressed my thoughts to the back of my mind as we continued decorating. For dinner we had the leftovers from last night. I was so looking forward to spending Christmas with him.
